We are pleased to announce that chief counsel, Celina Stewart, will be the next CEO of the League of Women Voters!
The in person delegates from Alabama met with our LWVUS board liaison, Leah Edwards, during breakfast before breakout sessions started. We also met with delegates from other sister leagues from Louisiana, Utah, and Alaska! Such a wonderful convening of like minded democracy lovers!
The League of Women Voters of Alabama is on the hill in DC, lobbying for the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act (JLVRAA). Jenalla Lymon and Kathy Jones had a wonderful conversation with Congresswoman Terri Sewell’s staff member Robyn Gulley and intern Micaiah Collins.
We are so grateful to Congresswoman Sewell’s long term dedication to restoring the Voting Rights Act.

Black Warrior Riverkeeper is having a fundraiser on June 19 at the Lookout Rooftop Bar at Hotel Indigo 111 Greensboro Ave. (at the bottom of River Hill). Time: 5-10 PM.
A information & merchandise table open from 5:30 – 7:30PM. Hotel Indigo will donate 10% of bar sales that night.

Our delegates to the LWVAL Council, Spokesperson Scarlett Gaddy, Carol Prickett and Katie Terrell, will tell us about the business conducted by LWVAL members at the Council meeting on June 1st. We'll also review the status of the proposed update to our LWVGT Library Program study.
As a lunch option, we have ordered assorted sandwich boxes from Jason's Deli. Bring $12 in cash or a check to pay for one. Of course, you still are certainly welcome if you don't choose to do so!

Picture this: a Zoom session integrated with an in-person gathering, created an immersive experience as we learned about civic engagement from teenage activists. Brooke and Breanna Bennett spoke with brilliance, insight, and inspiration as they delved into the heart of empowerment, leadership, and their relentless pursuit to provide free period products to girls in every Title 1 school in Alabama.
