Fall is definitely in the air and with the arrival of fall we know that soon Christmas will be on its way.

I am slowly making a few pieces of Christmas inventory a little at a time. However working alone I am not able to handle much volume and I will definitely not be able to handle a Christmas season like I used to with a full crew.

We are considering coming out with a Limited Edition Product Line, which would include the Entire Elves and Angels product line
available to you the customer, in either Pine or Hardwood.

We are “testing the waters” so to speak,
to see if there is any Interest in this idea, before we proceed.

If there is a positive reaction and sincere Customer interest,
and people would like this made available to them,
it would be set up as follows…

1. Due to the fact that I am an older, and VERY Experienced
Elf /Toymaker...

I will need to have in place a Delivery Time of 4-8 weeks
from the time of your Order Date.

2. The Pricing will be based on our present situation,
and the availability of wood and component parts.

Elves and Angels NEW Production Format

Dear Loyal Customers,
We recently had to close our company Elves and Angels, after 36 years of creating and selling beautiful Heirloom Quality Toys. Due to the high costs of lumber and component parts, and after the fire we had back in June of 2023, we found it financially impossible to continue.

Rather than just end Elves and Angels, we have decided to continue on, as a way to supplement our income, on a semi-retired basis.
David Smalley, Creator of Elves and Angels, is our Semi-retired Toymaker.

Henceforth, we will be making and selling “Limited Editions” of some of our products. David will be the only “Elf” working, and it will be a Single Person Production.
Therefore, he will only be producing several products per week.

These will be The SAME Beautiful Elves and Angels Designs.

They will be the SAME Heirloom Quality.

They will have the SAME Ease of Assembly, and Lifetime Guarantee.

REMEMBER!

We WILL NOT be producing large quantities of TOYS for the Holiday Season.

Canopy replacement
We needed to replace our old canopy for this set (user error), and I am so glad we did. I love this canopy. My child is older now than when we first got it, and this is definitely going to extend the life of the set. I am a short adult, and I can stand under the middle. It is so awesome. It has been 35 years since we began Elves and Angels. What a story the walls of the Workshops could tell if they could speak!

My wife Susan and I actually began Elves and Angels back in 1972 when we made our first toy for our son Jeremy for Christmas. It was a simply designed Rocking horse , and at 18 months old, he loved it! Then, for the next 20 years we made wooden toys in our basement for our children every year at Christmas time. By then there were 8 children.

Then in 1988 we made our first wooden kitchen for our daughter Priscilla’s birthday,
and Elves and Angels was born.

What a ride it has been!

In 1994 we moved north to our farm in northern Maine with our very large family, and surrounded by our children and the beauty of nature, I felt it could not get any better.

After the fire of 2004, we rebuilt a beautiful spacious Workshop with the help of our family,
friends and neighbors. To work together with our children as they grew up, is a special memory for me that I hold very dear to my heart. All of us working together to produce true Heirloom Quality Products for children was my joy!

There were so many long hours around the holidays. We were tired, but pressing on to keep up with the demands of the season. There were Christmas cookies, hot chocolate and other snacks, and for me, lots of coffee. There was that ever present feeling of Oneness that comes from all of us working together, toward the same end.

Love of labor and a love of Beauty is what made Elves and Angels special. We have shared our lives with so many of you over the years, and many friendships have emerged and grown from our relationships with our customers, suppliers and shippers.
We have loved hearing from you over the years, and we are so thankful for all of your love and support when times were hard.

When we started Elves and Angels I was 38 years old. I am now 73.
I want to thank each one of you for allowing our products to have a place in your homes and families. I will miss this business and nearly everything that went into it. I am simply in love with wood, and creating beautiful things for beautiful children.
It has been our Life and our Life’s work.

We have suffered two devastating fires. The first in 2004 destroyed the Workshop, and the next last June, destroyed everything, both our home and workshop gone. We decided to rebuild and begin again. We thank you for your patience and support as we tried to rise out of the ashes.

We discovered during the past year, the cost of operating, the price of wood, and all the component parts, have all doubled or tripled. The availability of the very high grade of wood used in our products has become harder and harder to find.

At this point, it is almost impossible to find high quality clear Pine. This has created an ongoing problem, that we do not seem to be able to remedy.

It makes going any further nearly impossible.

We have decided to close Elves and Angels Heirloom Quality Toys for good.

As we end this season of life, I want you to know that we are ever grateful to all of you for making our lives so very full and very special. We will remember it always.

Dear Friends Of Elves and Angels,

In this letter I have chosen to use friends to address you all, because you feel like friends to me. After we posted about the Closing of Elves and Angels, we received, and are still receiving huge amounts of orders. Many were things that were not in our inventory. We made the decision to continue on until the orders stopped pouring in, so that all that wanted these products could get them.
And Are We Ever Busy! Please be patient.

The real purpose of this letter is to express our gratitude for the many many orders you have placed, but especially for the comments you have left on our post. It has been difficult facing closing Elves and Angels down, but your comments have turned our sadness into Joy.

How good it is to see and hear that what you chose for a life's work, was appreciated by so many, and helped make a difference in their lives and their family. To see that so many actually understood what we were trying to do from the very beginning, is very special.
Your kindness, love, and support made us smile, and many times cry, as we read through your comments and emails.

One evening Susan and I went to all the comments and read them out loud to each other. We kept taking turns with each comment. We read them all, cried, smiled, and had a lovely evening doing it. Thank you so much. What a send off !

Many have wished me well in retirement. I thank you for this, but I will have to continue on in woodworking to supplement our income. Please don't feel badly, as I love creating with wood. I have many ideas in my mind, but nothing is definite yet I am considering custom furniture, or one of a kind pieces, mixed with designs of my own. We will see....

I must say, that in the back of my mind, I guess I had always hoped that there could be 1 or 2 people who would be interested in carrying on this business, that shared our vision and could continue to carry on the Legacy of Elves and Angels in a smaller scaled back version. I have not heard from anyone yet who I consider eligible for this, but if you think it would be a good idea, please leave a comment that says..."Keep Going!" Maybe then someone will come forward.....we shall see....

In closing, I am ever grateful for the outpouring of your hearts and all who have wished our family well. We will never forget it.
I am writing this letter for all of our family, as it truly was a group effort that made Elves and Angels Handcrafted Wooden Toys so very special.
