Like many of you, we were a family of endurance athletes, and had accumulated a number of finisher medals. Over time they began to pile up in drawers, hung on the sides of mirrors, or collected in shoe boxes.
As I was on the brink of qualifying for Boston for the first time, and achieved at Bayshore Marathon in 2008, we decided to make something to display our finisher medals. My wife Nell is a Professional Artist and I am an Engineer with 30+ years of precision sheet metal experience. From day one, our combined unique experiences and skill sets complemented each other. We are proud to say that our first display was created from a blank sheet of paper, and was the result of Nell and me brainstorming and arriving at something unlike anything on the market.
Not knowing that products existed in the marketplace to hang medals was a blessing for us because working from a blank sheet of paper from the start resulted in a truly unique and attractive product.
Established 10-10-10
After getting many compliments on our own personal medal display and after having shown it off at the Rock-N-Roll Chicago Half Marathon, where Nell was the Official Artist, Nell collected 54 names of interested buyers, one buyer offering up $200.00 on the spot for our personal Medal Display, Blue Diamond was born.
On October 10th of 2010, at the Chicago Marathon, we hand delivered our first Medal Display to Jesse B. of MI and the Blue Diamond journey began.
From a mom and pop shop, which started in our kitchen we have come a long way since then.
