Cracks Filled, Worth Found

Sin's effects are very real. Or maybe both. But we absolutely can recover, with God's help.

All of us need to recover from something, whether because of the bad choices we've made in the past or because of something someone else has done to us.

You don't have to BE somebody. You already ARE somebody! ❤

“Knowing who I am in Christ sets me free from having to be somebody.” -Sinclair Ferguson

When you really know Jesus, you understand why you no longer have to fight to ‘be somebody.’ You already ARE somebody, because Christ’s love for you overcame everything (literally death and back again) just to have you in His family. Knowing where our identity lies depends on our accurate understanding of who God is, and what He has done for us in Christ. No feel good self help title is going to give you what Christ alone can give you: real freedom. Freedom from giving a rip about wholehearted approval from anyone but Jesus, who gives you his never-stopping, won't-ever-quit, always and forever love. What more could you ever need?

Gratitude brings joy! ❤️

“Always be joyful. Never stop praying. Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.” ‭‭1 Thessalonians‬ ‭5:16-18‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Some days it is easier than others… and at times life has a way of making this scripture more of a goal than a reality! But when we remain thankful in all circumstances, God’s joy stays close.

Consider taking a daily inventory today that includes what you are grateful for in your life.

If you feel like you’re far from perfect, you’re in great company. Every one of us have scars and defects that make us flawed.

“Indeed, there is no one on earth who is righteous, no one who does what is right and never sins.” Ecclesiastes‬ ‭7:20‬ ‭NIV‬‬

But let’s never forget, we're God’s masterpiece. We are His children, young and old. Because of this, we are priceless.

““Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?” Matthew‬ ‭6:25-26‬ ‭NIV‬‬

It’s never too late to be saved by His grace or to start your Recovery.

Addiction does not care about your background or your education level. It does not avoid you depending on race, heritage, or finances. The grip of addiction can latch on to anyone, at any time.

Likewise, recovery is not for one group of people.

If you have blood in your veins you are eligible for recovery.
And not just sobriety… recovery.

Romans 3:21-25
But now the righteousness of God has been manifested apart from the law, although the Law and the Prophets bear witness to it— the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. For there is no distinction: for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, whom God put forward as a propitiation by his blood, to be received by faith.

“Mold me and make me, after thy will.” ❤️

The prayer of “change me, Lord” is a popular prayer. After all, we should want to be changed into God’s version of us.

But boy is it uncomfortable. Some of those character defects are in there pretty deep and often times we are all-too comfortable with them being there.

Nonetheless, God has a better life for us… but it takes allowing him to mold us like the great potter He is.

Yet you, Lord, are our Father. We are the clay, you are the potter; we are all the work of your hand. Isaiah 64:8

How often do we limit God based on our circumstances? We say things like: “He can raise people from the dead, but my marriage may be over.” Or: “I’ve started recovery before but I’ll never be able to have the strength to stick it out.”

While we certainly all have limitations, God can do anything. Imagine the greatest thing ever to happen in your life… He can do that too.

But Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” Matthew 19:26

Let’s keep believing in Him today.

Earnestly believe that God exists, that I matter to Him and that He has the power to help me recover. (Step 2)
“Happy are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.” Matthew 5:4 TEV, NIV

““And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith?” Matthew‬ ‭6:28-30‬ ‭NIV‬‬

God helps flowers grow… Yet, we so often question why we have to walk through hard things. Whatever it is that you’re going through, God can help you with His power.

You adulterous people, don’t you know that friendship with the world means enmity against God? Therefore, anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God. Or do you think Scripture says without reason that he jealously longs for the spirit he has caused to dwell in us? But he gives us more grace.

That is why Scripture says:
“God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.”

Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. (James 4:4-7, NIV)

God is an emotional God. He created us, in His image, to be emotional people.

Our emotions turn sinful when they lead us to take our focus off God and His glory (what would give the right representation of who He is, either to others or to ourselves in our own minds and hearts) and instead focus on ourselves (what we want/desire, what would make us feel good or more comfortable, etc.).

People often end up in a recovery program because they’ve tried (and failed at) healing themselves. While there’s certainly a lot we can do for our recoveries, healing comes from God.

Before Christ’s work on the cross, people had to do everything right to stay in good standing with God. Now, Jesus made a way to healing through His work.

““He himself bore our sins” in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; “by his wounds you have been healed.”” ‭‭1 Peter‬ ‭2:24‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Need healing? Seek Jesus and you’ll find His perfect healing for you.

Or, as my pastor friend says, "God loves you the way you are, but He loves you too much to let you stay that way." 😁❤

Voluntarily submit to every CHANGE God wants to make in my life and humbly ask Him to remove my character defects.

Pastor John, in his book Life’s Healing Choices, does a brilliant job discussing the transformation choice. He talks about how in order for us to change we need to submit to God’s power in our lives. This is shown in the scripture found in Matthew 5:6:

“Happy are those whose greatest desire is to do what God requires.”

Pastor John continues: “Will the changes be easy? Will they happen overnight? Of course not. But the promise of this beatitude is that when your greatest desire is to do what God requires, you’ll be happy.”

“You know God has forgiven you; now He wants to change you. He loves you too much to leave you the way you are.

Psalm 103:12 as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us.

The east never touches the west. They are an infinite distance away from each other. This is the exact same distance that Jesus’ work on the cross put between our sin and us.

All that’s left is us accepting it.
