October is a Doozy!

We've got a whole slew of things going on this month - we're back at the Des Moines Biergarten on the 5th and 19th, we're playing games with the Waukee Public Library on the 8th, and our every Thursday at The New Northwestern Cocktail & Wine Bar.

We're at the Iowa Library Association convention, playing Blood on the Clocktower and talking about Camp Refresh at Capital City Gaming Con and doing games with the Iowa Talented and Gifted association. We're also debuting our new Mystery Game, Sorcery Showdown with the ILA, in Ogden, and at the Altoona (IA) Public Library

We're also doing our School of Adventure on Mondays! This session is closed, but we're already working hard on the second session (estimated to launch in January!) - including content for experienced Adventurers! (And maybe adults?) Take our survey here to help us craft the best options!

And Finally - we're doing a special Halloween Edition of our Cocktails and Cardboard night! The New Northwestern is putting up giftcards for best costume, and to the winner of our special 'all night' game that we'll be running alongside our normal game night! There's going to be drink specials and maybe a specialty drink - and it's all free to attend! Spend your Halloween with us!

This just in! We're adding a second night of Blood on the Clocktower at Capital City Gaming Con! So now you can play with us on Friday night too!

Event Submissions and News!
In addition to tabletop.events, we will be using a new tool for game scheduling this year- the Meeple Meet app.

The Meeple Meet app (available on iPhone and Android) allows games to be scheduled in advance without the need to preselect a location for the game. Once the creator of the game has determined where they will be playing, they can set the location on the map included in the app and/or post text messages to the game. Players who have signed up for the game will receive a notification. This gives the users maximum flexibility in scheduling games.

The app includes features such as teacher wanted flags, a flag to indicate when a play-to-win game is being played, and the ability to set alerts to be notified when specific games are submitted.

The code to access Capital City Gaming Con in the application is ccgc24 (case-sensitive).

Tabletop.Events
Event submissions via tabletop.events are now open for scheduling large events & games with special setup needs.
Our trusty "Players & Teachers Wanted" meeples will still available for you to use.

We're playing Blood on the Clocktower tomorrow night at Gravitate Coworking! We'll be playing in the first setting again, so it'll be a very beginner friendly game!

We're just over a week out from the kickoff of our School of Adventure campaign! In case you missed it - we're running an 8 week introductory Dungeons and Dragons campaign for kids between the ages of 10 and 15!

The Dealt Hand Des Moines Board Game Events

Thursdays mean games, drinks and snacks at the The New Northwestern Cocktail & Wine Bar - we're bringing our some of our favorite games to one of our favorite spots to hang out!

We'll be teaching games from 6-9pm - so come on out and have a good time with us!

One of our biggest goals for the School of Adventure is to make sure that the parents of our participants know that their kids are going to have fun and learn to play the game, without having to worry about the content that their kids will be exposed to.

We've worked hard to design a campaign that is both enjoyable for kids to play while also giving them the full D&D experience - using all the the mechanics introduced at a pace that is manageable - with a setting that lives comfortably in the space between PG and PG13 - it is a game about fighting monsters after all!

Tomorrow is the day! We're at Gravitate Coworking (500 Locust Street) for our Crokinole Tournament! Games and warm up boards start at 2pm - and we'll start the tournament at 3! Remember - the winner gets a weekend pass to Capital City Gaming Con!

It's a singles tournament, so no worries about having a partner, but feel free to bring the whole crew in - we'll have plenty of games to play the whole time!

We've been doing off-and-on Role playing events for a long time, and the one thing we hear a TON of is "where can my kid play regularly"? And the answer has been... we're not sure? Libraries have occasional programming, and the game stores will do one shots for kids - but every week is unheard of.

We're excited to be launching the Dealt Hand School of Adventure! Our first season is aiming at the biggest pain point we've heard from folks - regular games for kids between the ages of 10 and 15. Our first season for the School of Adventure is designed to teach kids how to play D&D and also give them the full campaign experience - 8 weeks of 2 hour sessions, with tables maxed out at 5 players and a dedicated GM at each table. Priced at $150 for the season, we're able to pay our GM's well, provide materials for kids and GM's to run a great game, plus graduates of the school get a unique shirt to brag with too! We're also running our Helping Hand Fund for these events - so if you have a kid who can't afford the whole price, reach out and we'll do our best to cover what we can!

We're hoping to have this grow into a lot of different things, but for now, if you have a 10-15 year old who wants to play, the link below is to this program which starts IN 2 WEEKS! That's right - games start on September 23rd, so you don't have to wait long. We have a limited number of seats this season, so don't sit on this!

Tomorrow is our ONLY Bingo at the Des Moines Biergarten this month! I know! There's a bunch of big events over the next few weeks, and getting in and out on top of these other events is just going to be too much.
