Student Health Services’ mission is to provide high quality health care to all enrolled George Mason University students. From diagnosis and treatment of illness and injury, to immunizations and prescriptions, we are here for Mason students.
New student at George Mason University for summer/fall 2024? You must submit your immunization records by the 8/1/24 deadline. Get started at shs.gmu.edu/immunizations.
Have you submitted your Immunization Record Form to the Immunization Office? Don’t forget! It’s due by August 1, 2024 for all new incoming fall 2024 students. Student Health Services’ designation for LGBTQ+ health care practices is the latest recognition of George Mason’s inclusive campus environment George Mason University’s Student Health Services (SHS) is one of 462 health care facilities to receive the “LGBTQ+ Healthcare Equality High Performer” designation from the Human Rights Campaign Foundation's 2024 Healthcare Equality Index.
The summer open enrollment period for the Aetna Student Health insurance plan ends on June 15, 2024. Eligible domestic students and dependents of enrolled students can sign up online. Details at shs.gmu.edu/insurance.
Our Immunization and Insurance Offices summer hours of operation are Monday - Thursday from 8:45 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., closed for lunch 12-1 p.m. Fridays open 12:30 - 4:30 p.m. The offices are available virtually by phone or email. Visit shs.gmu.edu for office details, link in bio.

Thank you to all our nurses at Student Health Services for all that you do during Nurses Appreciation Week. This year's theme, "Nurses Make the Difference," honors the incredible nurses who embody the spirit of compassion and care in every health care setting.
May is Mental Health Awareness Month. It serves as a reminder to check-in on yourself and the people you care about. Remember to prioritize self-care, especially during stressful times, like final exams. Reach out to available resources like Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS), TimelyCare, or Student Health Services if you or someone you know could benefit from support. The first step is often the hardest, but you are not alone.
If you are planning to travel abroad, Student Health Services' Travel Clinic can help students prepare for a safe trip by providing prescriptions and immunizations needed for disease prevention and discuss travel safety. There is a fee for this service. Call 703-993-2831 to schedule, generally 4-6 weeks prior to travel. Services details at shs.gmu.edu/services/travelclinic.
Travel tip: have a plan for what you would do in case of a variety of situations - including illness, emergency, or injury. The Centers for Disease Control Traveler’s Health website has great information to help you prepare for a trip, visit cdc.gov/travel.

What is mpox?
Mpox is a viral infection that can spread to anyone through close, personal contact. Symptoms can include a pimple or blister-like rash near ge****ls, a**s, or other places on the body, like arms, fever and other flu-like symptoms. To help prevent mpox, get vaccinated, avoid skin-to-skin contact with people who have a rash that looks like mpox and avoid contact with materials or objects used by someone with mpox. Anyone may receive the mpox vaccine. You will not be asked at the clinic about why you would like to be vaccinated. The CDC has recommendations for who should receive the vaccine, which you can read more about on their website. The mpox vaccine is two doses. You will be scheduled for the second dose of vaccine at the clinic.
Mpox symptoms may include a rash and flu-like symptoms and this viral infection can be spread through close, personal contact. Learn more about mpox from the CDC at cdc.gov/mpox.
Taking care of your health is one of the most important ways to nurture your well-being. Often, with so many places to go and doctors to see, it can feel hard to know where to start. Student Health Services is excited to highlight the work of our healthcare team during the Access to Research and Inclusive Excellence Conference 2024. The conference panel session will discuss the process of expanding access to gender affirming care within our health clinic. Through collaboration with Mason’s LGBTQ+ Resources Center, students, and universities who hold Center of Excellence designations for transgender health, Student Health was able to meet a need and provide quality care for our students.
Regular health screenings are just one way to care for your health.
