UM Health-West would like to sincerely thank Steve Van Andel for his service to the hospital’s Board of Directors for nearly 40 years, most recently as Chair from 2021-2024. Van Andel will focus his time on the role of Vice Chair of the U-M Health Regional Board of Directors, which he joined last fall. The regional board oversees the strategic direction and governance of UM Health-West and UM Health-Sparrow hospitals.

UM Health-West has elected John Hendrickson as Chair of the hospital’s Board of Directors and Bruce Courtade as Vice Chair. Hendrickson is founder of C&H Solutions LLC and former Chairman, President and CEO of Perrigo. He has served on the UM Health-West Board of Directors since 2016. Two days after completing a cross-country road trip, Cynthia Brooks was at her home in Middleville when she began to feel ill. At UM Health-West Hospital, doctors spotted a tangle of veins and arteries on Cynthia’s brain stem, which had caused two strokes. Working against time, Drs. Bryan Figueroa, Surgical Director of the UM Health-West Stroke Center, and Fazeel Siddiqui, Interventional Neurologist and Co-Director of Interventional Neuroradiology at UM Health-West, were able to prevent it from catastrophically bursting.
