Brockton Area Prevention Collaborative
The Collaborative's mission is to save lives from substance use and prevent the damage it can do to individuals, families and our local community.
To do this, The Collaborative educates young people with accurate information and tools to cope with life’s challenges, and to help them understand the harmful effects of drugs and alcohol. We connect individuals and families with the resources they need to become better informed. And we work with leaders in the community to build a system of support in every neighborhood.
The Prevention Team had the honor of going to Chicago to attend 23rd Annual Midyear Training Institute!
🏙️
Attendees were able to hear from keynote speakers and workshops for a hands-on learning opportunity. This experience allowed our staff to network with coalitions from across the nation to learn more about best practices in effective substance use prevention efforts.
🏙️
The staff also had the opportunity for team building and exploring in Chicago’s tourist attractions like the Bean in Millennium Park, the Navy Pier, River Walk and they even enjoyed some deep dish pizza! 🍕
The opposite of addiction is connection. 💜
Join us for this year's Overdose Vigil by Candlelight on August 29th at Massasoit Community College. A resource fair will begin at 6PM with programming to follow at 7PM.

Alert About Emerging Substances, Carfentanil
The CDC is closely monitoring concerns about the increased presence of carfentanil in the illegal drug supply market. Carfentanil is a synthetic fentanyl analog that has a potency of 10,000 times that of morphine. Currently, the number of deaths related to carfentanil is small, however due to the high potency of the drug in small amounts, overdose outbreaks can spike. Therefore, it is imperative to monitor trends involving carfentanil so public health professionals can respond to overdose outbreaks and limit the increase of overdose deaths.
Recommendations for public health professionals
▪️Continue drug overdose surveillance that captures carfentanil involvement in overdoses.
▪️Encourage naloxone treatment for reversing overdoses.
▪️Inclusion of carfentanil in clinical testing for nonfatal overdoses treated in emergency departments and further laboratory tests of drug products and/or paraphernalia.

"Curran was a beautiful boy with a dazzling smile, an infectious laugh, and a remarkable capacity to love deeply. He sought peace and calmness while never quite finding it. If you spent any time with Curran, you learned that he sneezed whenever he moved from shade into sunshine. It was an endearing trait that he found annoying, and one that is shared by his baby daughter, Maelynn Rose Tierney.
He could connect with people quickly and easily, often sensing something in others that most would overlook. He frequently offered a generous helping hand or kind words that left positive impacts on the people he met. As part of the Addiction Recovery community, he often encouraged others into treatment and offered support. His dream upon reaching long term recovery was to study social work and become a recovery coach and outreach coordinator. He truly wanted to help others recover and overcome their addiction. Unfortunately, he is not able to achieve that goal, but through Curran’s Calling, we can help his dream become a reality." 💜
Join us as we honor Curran at this year's Overdose Vigil by Candlelight on August 29th at Massasoit Community College.

"Underage gambling impacts communities by being a gateway to a gambling addiction as well as other addictions as well homelessness. Living with a problem gambling disorder may limit one’s ability to secure other resources, such as housing. "

It was an honor and privilege to present the Public Service Award from Community Services of Greater Brockton to Dennis Genuich yesterday at their Annual Award Dinner.
Dennis is one of the most professional, loyal, considerate, and engaged of our local partners. He shows a true commitment to understanding the district and embodies the “one size does NOT fit all” mentality. In his everyday role within the school district, Mr. Genuich is a true public servant. His mindset is always “how can I be of service to those in the community” and is constantly working to provide resources to fill gaps identified within the school and community.
Dennis acknowledges the importance of people feeling recognized and finding ways to uplift and empower the students, staff and local partners. He would drop anything and give the actual shirt off of his back to give a helping hand to his community.
