quick question ๐๐ฝโโ๏ธ- have you ever truly valued something โgivenโ to you? Especially something given to you from someone who had already taken everything away.
Most things of value are things youโve fought for, struggled to obtain or sacrificed to achieve.
How can you give โfreedomโ to someone born free?
โThe people of Texas are informed that, in accordance with a proclamation from the Executive of the United States, all slaves are free. This involves an absolute equality of personal rights and rights of property between former masters and slaves, and the connection heretofore exist between them becomes that between employer and hired labor.
The freedmen are advised to remain quietly at present homes and work for wages. They are informed that they will not be allowed to collect at military posts they will not be supported in idleness either there or elsewhere.โ
Religion is software
"Let every man, says he (1 Cor. 7:20), abide in the same calling wherein he was called. Let every man know that his being called to the faith of Christ does not exempt him from continuing in the same state of life he was before; it makes no
alteration of his condition in this world; the liberty of Christianity is entirely spiritual." - Willam Fleetwood, 1711 sermon to the Society for the Propagation of the Gospel in Foreign Parts (SPG).
Willam Fleetwood was one of the principal figures behind the SPG, which was formed in 1701, to promote conversion of indigenous peoples in Africa, as well as natives and slaves in the American colonies, to Anglican Christianity.
In a 1711 Fleetwood presented a sermon to the Society for the Propagation of the Gospel, wherein he set forth the duty of instructing Negroes in the Anglicized Christian religion. This sermon was re-printed and distributed throughout the British Colonies and West Indies. Via this early media-campaign, SPG missionaries hoped to convert enslaved and indigenous peoples to Christianity.

Here is a photo by Jack Potts called "Struggling With Freedom" of Bohemian Photography - last summer at our Winter Street Residency with FreshArts, we met Jack and spent time in his studio.
He helped us not only with video, photography + art advice. He was such a kind person and was willing to help in any way he could. Now we're trying to spread the word to return the favor.
His studio (amongst others) burned down on Tuesday and he lost everything. This is an an artists worst nightmare, to lose the very thing that helps you manage this cold world ๐ฅถ
Hit the link in our bio to contribute either to the disaster relief fund sponsored by or Jack's GoFundMe, organized Kristie McCune.
Peace to Jack, his friends and family. We hope you'll be back up and shooting soon! ๐ธ๐ฅ

There is absolutely no coincidence that a comfortable Black woman is a threat to American Society. ๐๐พ
