I just hung an exhibit of my graphite and colored pencil portraits and acrylic landscapes.

They will be on exhibit at Oyster Mill Playhouse in Camp Hill, May 10 -26. The play during that time will be Hay Fever.

If you've never been to this playhouse, I think you'd love it. The actors are all volunteer and very talented. The sets are amazing and all the behind the scenes jobs are done by volunteers as well

If you get a chance to attend this play, take a little time to enjoy my art.

Check their website and FB page.

This is a portrait I did a few years ago. I also did her little sister at the same age. I don't often get commissions for colored pencil, but the client loved them.

The best years to be born in the history of Earth & we got to experience it all. Thank God for all the times, the adventures, wars won, technology developed. Generations after future generations will never experience what we did. What a generation we turned out to be.
To Those of Us Born1925 - 1955:At the end of this email is a quote of the month by Jay Leno.If you don't read anything else, Please read what he said.~~~~~~~~~TO ALL THEKIDS WHO SURVIVED THE1930’s, 40’s and 50’s !!First, we survived being born to mothers who may have smoked and/or drank - While they were pregnant. They took aspirin, ate blue cheese dressing, tuna from a can, and didn't get tested for diabetes. Then, after that trauma, we were put to sleep on our tummies in baby cribsCovered with bright coloredlead-based paints. We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, locks on doors or cabinets, and, when we rode our bikes,we had baseball caps, not helmets, on our heads. As infants and children, we would ride in cars with no car seats, no booster seats, no seat belts, no air bags, bald tires and sometimes no brakes.Riding in the back of a pick- up truck on a warm day was always a special treat. We drank water from the garden hose and not from a bottle. We shared one soft drink with four friends, from one bottle, and no one actually died from this.We ate cupcakes, white bread, real butter and bacon. We drank Kool-Aid made with real white sugar. And we weren't overweight.WHY?Because we were always outside playing...that's why!We would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were back when the streetlights came on.No one was able to reach us all dayand, we were OKAY.We would spend hours buildingour go-carts out of scraps andthen ride them down the hill,Only to find out that we forgot about brakes. After running into the bushes a few times, we learned to solve the problem. We did notHave Play Stations, Nintendoand X-boxes. There wereNo video games,No 150 channels on cable,No video moviesOr DVDs,No surround-sound or CDs,No cell phones,No personal computers,No Internet andNo chat rooms.WE HAD FRIENDSAnd we wentOutside and found them!We fell out oftrees, got cut,Broke bones andLost teeth,And there wereNo lawsuitsFrom those accidents. We would getSpankings with wooden spoons, switches, ping-pong paddles, or just a bare hand,And no one would call child services to report abuse. We ate worms,And mud piesMade from dirt,AndThe worms didNot live in us forever. We were givenBB guns for our 10th birthdays,22 rifles for our 12th, rode horses, made up games with sticks andtennis balls, andalthough we weretold it would happen - we did not put out very many eyes.We rode bikesor walked to a friend's house and knocked on the door or rang the bell,or just walked in and talked to them.
Little League hadtryoutsAnd not everyonemade the team. Those who didn'thad to learn to deal withthe Disappointment.Imagine that!!The idea of a parentbailing us outif we broke the lawwas unheard of ...They actually sided with the law! These generations haveproduced some of the best risk-takers,problem solvers, andinventors ever. The past 60 to 85 yearshave seen an explosionof innovation and new ideas. We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learnedhow to deal with it all.If you are one of those bornbetween 1925 &1955, CONGRATULATIONS!You might wantto share this with others who have had the luck to grow up as kids before the lawyersand the government regulated so much of our lives for our own good. While you are at it,forward this to your kidsso they will knowhow brave and luckytheir parents were.Kind of makesyou want to run through the housewith scissors, doesn't it ?~~~~~~~

Just for the record -- I never ate worms or mud pies!!!

I've been binging on YouTube again. I learn so much there. My latest binges hinge on art. I've watched long videos on biographies on artists like Van Gogh, Monet and Renoir.

I didn't realist the Monet and Renoir were best friends and often went out to paint together. The often painted side by side so the landscapes were from the same perspectives. It was amazing to see so many paintings like this. Their style was similar but you could easily see the differences.

Another series is where they research a work of art to know if it's worth a fortune or if it's just a fake. So many are copies and require intensive scientific research to determine the truth.

The biography of Van Gogh was a surprised me. I always thought he didn't do many paintings and only sold one. But this show told of all his charcoal drawings done while he was a young man. He was only 36 when he died yet he had over 400 drawings and lots of paintings but only 40 of the paintings were signed.

I'be been loving painting againn. In the last 5 weeks, I've painted more than 6 paintings. Now it's time to think about Christmas.

I'm just sitting here looking at my lit tree and wondering what to do with it. It is usually covered with oodles of ornaments and icicles. But this tree went up yesterday and my cat has been sitting under it shaking it and chewing on the artificial needles. He stands under it on his hind legs and I'm waiting To see if he climbs in and knocks it over. I'm also worried about all my big handmade Santa's and other beautiful Christmas things.

I was able to spend more time on this today. For now, I'm calling it finished. I may revisit it later after I look at a few days. It's 12x24 acrylic on stretched canvas.

I took this photo off my friends deck at her cabin in the woods. As I said before, those are huge boulders.

Thanks for watching this WIP. And thank you for all the responses.

20/11/2023

Here's the end of day two on this painting. It's starting to come together, but a ways from being finished. This is 11x14.

19/11/2023

For years I didn't paint because I just didn't have the right area to hide the mess. But now I do!

I went on a little retreat back in the middle of October My friend, that I hadn't seen for 50 years, invited me to come to her cabin in the woods. It was so beautiful and relaxing that it released my need for artistic expression. As soon as I got home I got out my paints and I haven't stopped painting.

This is the beginning of my 6th painting since then. This is actually from a photo I took from her deck. She said there used to be a quary in this area and these are huge boulders! This is just the underpainting and at this point it's very impressionistic.

Keep watching for updates. I come to my studio several times a day and paint for an hour or two. My cat doesn't like to be alone too long at one time, or I may just be here all day. 😉

Here is my latest little landscape. It's acrylic on 8x10 stretched canvas. My attempt to loosen my work is getting easier. I can't wait until this heat breaks so I can get outside to do more en plein aire.

My work is for sale if you see something on this page that interests you. Just message me or call and make appointment to see the works displayed in my studio gallery.

I've been watching the British series called Landscape Artist of the Year. They have 48 artists painting. Each set of 8 paints from the same scene and they narrow that group down to the best 3 and then to the best one for that group. They the series continues until the last episode where the Artist of the Year winner is named.

My friend and I decided it look like so much fun we got together to day to do it. It's really hot out but we started painting early in the morning and then moved into her screened porch when we got too hot

I don't do many landscapes, but I'd like to. I just need to loosen up my techniques. My portraits are so detailed.

So here is my first en plein aire painting. I hope to do more because this was fun. It's acrylic on an 11x14 stretched canvas. This is my friends back yard with a creek behind it.

My clients just picked up this portrait. I wanted to show you the WIP. (Work in progress). She found me because of my new kitten.

This portrait brought them to tears, which I take as the best compliment. She is 9x12, done in colored pencil on Bristol board.
