More light, better view … let’s do it!!! One of my favorite things to do is add light to any kitchen. We took a small window and made it bigger and with a gentle arch … when the cabinets and backsplash go in, it will be a gorgeous focal point, but look how pretty it is already!!!

I wish I could do everyone’s projects who have reached out to me but I am just b.u.r.i.e.d…

So, I made the super hard decision after being booked through the beginning of 2022 that I can’t take on any new clients right now.

This kitchen demo started live today and planning started several months ago. It will be such a fun one as we are sanding and refinishing the floors to a beautiful blonder tone and then slightly changing the footprint of the kitchen to welcome some drama and a big beautiful island that all can gather around!

We took some dated elements in this beautiful home and made it feel more like what the owners felt reflected their personal style!

Updates to this room included:
🙌🏼 taking out the columns and bulkhead
🙌🏼 updating the crown & base molding as well as window casing to reflect a more modern craftsman style
🙌🏼 opening up the pass through to the pantry a bit
🙌🏼 adding board and batten wainscoting
🙌🏼 updating the flooring

Ok, ok, so lemme tell you a little story! So, many months ago my son was sitting in his apartment due to quarantine restrictions and he decided to use his time to learn a new skill. He practiced for weeks on end and would draw nearly anything he could to stay productive and positive during this unprecedented time.

I mentioned to him that I was staging and decorating several homes and that it would be so beautiful to capture these in some of his drawings.

Well, he accepted the challenge and drew from photos I had sent him! This home is one that I decorated last October!

Now, with a full course load, he is looking for some income and more homes to draw and would LOVE his next drawing to be YOUR home!!

Want the drawing painted in color as well?? He can do that too!!

Tiny little dorm rooms … big, big dreams for the future ❤️

My oldest moved in a few weeks ago and it was such a bittersweet moment in parenting! Mamas raise them for so many years and that moment when we let go, we almost feel like holding back and holding on just a little bit longer!!

Did you move one of yours off to college this Fall too?? How are you handling it with them gone? I’m sending big hugs your way!!

A ton of back to back, large projects from this summer have been wrapping up these past few weeks and I am definitely feeling the transition into the Fall season with more new projects on the table!

Here’s a final reveal of a master bathroom — I wanted to maximize the space we had and give the illusion it was larger. Additionally, the owner requested dark floors due to multiple fur babies which led me to propose these wood look tiles … that inspiration tile started the whole mood board and vibe! I love the way everything turned out!

Great molding on long feature walls provide a unique and interesting backdrop. This wall used to house upper and lower cabinets with a desk that no one really used. So, when we redesigned the kitchen, we decided to double the width of the island and just make this wall a nice backdrop to the kitchen space. Win!! Now we have both a large functional kitchen as well as a beautiful space in the works!!

No bulkhead and columns … no problem!!!!

These blonde floors … I’ve had so many clients request them lately and I have to admit, I’m such a big fan!!

I think they pair so well with the wood tones island and white quartz 😍 What about you? Are you brave enough to try lighter shades of wood on your floors too?!

It’s always one single thing that inspires my vision for an entire space…

I was listening to a young songwriter explain her process of creating music and she talked about a portion of another song usually being the jump off point for her own masterpieces. I found this so intriguing — she could literally hear just a measure or two of music and then decompose what resonated with her and take that in a whole new direction and create something so magical, you’d never even know that inspiration took her to this new place.

Decor is a lot like that for me. I’m this bathroom space, I knew I wanted a bold wallpaper print to infuse some life into the space. Once so found what I was looking for, I used the aesthetic of the print and the colors to drive the rest of the space — adding an old world chandelier, an arched mirror, pure white vessel sink, and shadow box wainscoting painting in a soft light grey.

It all came together so sweetly, it’s hard for me to recall the space before the redesign!!

Can you believe it’s the same bathroom? ❤️

In other news … my sweet client just got her floors sanded and we picked out stain and the new stove is installed and the stone we picked looks fabulous and … hahaha …

Well, that was just one project today 🙌🏼 Nobody works as hard as do!!!!

This master bathroom was part of a whole house overhaul. The home is one of the most interesting I’ve ever completed, as it is a replica of Thomas Jefferson’s summer home. It is full of interesting angles, but these can also make for some challenges in design. I’m so pleased with how everything turned out and happy to share it with you now that it’s complete!

Whoever thought that decorating would teach me patience …

But, it has been the greatest blessing. It’s so funny to compare what happens on versus what happens in real life! No project is like another, so tearing down drywall, moving things around, trying new ideas — it ALL comes with unexpected surprises that cause us to brainstorm on the spot. I absolutely love it because I’ve always been a problem solver, but sometimes it causes a little anxiety in clients.

As we talk through ideas, and see what’s structurally feasible or what kind of workarounds we need to offer, it ALWAYS gets ironed out and the final design you see gives you no clue there were little bumps along the way.

I suppose it would be less exciting to build the same spec house over and over and over; but, I don’t know if that would give me the same kind of satisfaction as working through all the obstacles that arise during a major renovation!!

Sometimes, I have to look at it like motherhood — each child is different & unique. Although I’ve parented before, each subsequent experience in parenting presents new challenges and the joy is found in learning and through patience.

Design, is really no different. ❤️

So, let’s get REAL for a minute …

THAT WAS A WEEK!!!

Soooooo many irons in the 🔥!! And, I feel like everyday is a type of mental Olympics keeping projects straight, staying on deadlines, making small changes as needed, OH AND BEING A MOM!!! 🤣🤣🤣😫

Don’t get me wrong. I. LOVE. IT. ALL. But, let’s imagine this scenario where you’re not only commanding your little army of contractors etc, but now also strategically making sure all of your little army at home is occupied in things other than endless Tik Tok’ing, video games, or sleeping all day!!

Well, we’re one week into summer break and we all survived! 🙌🏼 But, tell me I’m not the only one who hits that pillow HARD at the end of the day!??

I hope everyone enjoys the weekend and enjoy these (very) random pics from several projects this week!

When I tell you things are crazy busy, I mean things are craaaaazy busy!

But, it’s exciting to get these projects underway and watch each one move along!!

This one is nit just getting a kitchen makeover but new floors too!!! It will look soooo different when we are done!

People ask me all the time, how far ahead are you booking? Right now, I’m taking large projects for September and October starts — so, if you aren’t thinking ahead, call me now or it will be too late!!

Scale … it’s what it’s all about!!

The “before” range hood seemed to be an afterthought rather than a focal point. My client called and we knew it needed to be so much more!!

So, I helped design it, with better proportions than the initial one the builder had installed from the cabinet company. It needed real “presence” so that this long wall of cabinets wasn’t so ordinary.

Remember what I said about good tradesmen? Well, the carpenter executed this exactly to spec and 💥 now this wall has a range hood that really draws your eyes right where they belong! And, I think the warm wood tones on the new range hood are just as complimentary as it’s improved size!!
