September 29th marks World Heart Day, a global initiative to shine a light on the importance of cardiovascular health. Today we'd like to share the story of Chip Richie, an incredible individual whose journey with heart disease began in 1995. After two decades of treatment, Chip received the most precious gift of life - a donor heart.

Published in the latest issue of the esteemed ASAIO Journal, this GUARDIAN-Heart dataset now represents the largest peer-reviewed analysis comparing the post-transplant impact of advanced heart preservation technology to ice storage. Notably, investigators discovered significant reductions in severe primary graft dysfunction, demonstrated even in recipients with ischemic times over 4 hours.

New clinical evidence presented today at the 2023 American Association of Cardiology Annual Meeting showed that the use of the Paragonix SherpaPak CTS was associated with a significantly reduced risk of PGD (44% reduction, P=0.045), and severe PGD (69% reduction, P=0.009) in patients with an LVAD prior to transplant, as shown in the multivariable logistic regression analysis featured below: https://pgnx.info/3F0X8xi

The researchers analyzed several known risk variables for severe Primary Graft Dysfunction (PGD), which have been the subject of decades of clinical research. Out of all of the variables analyzed in the study, including recipient age and total ischemic time, the Paragonix SherpaPak had the strongest effect.
