THP Limited Inc.
Enduring Design Solutions
THP provided structural design and building envelope consulting services for the University of Cincinnati's College of Law. The 107,000 SF renovation of existing space contains classrooms, offices, and seminar and private study rooms, as well as a large auditorium to house community events. The 10,000 SF addition features a two-story lobby atrium and a second-floor outdoor terrace. The addition features a two-story lobby atrium and a second-floor outdoor terrace. The project presented several unique structural challenges, such as integrating the new two-story addition into three sides of an existing building. The addition is isolated from the original structure by an expansion joint to avoid the need for upgrades to the existing building structure's lateral system. Collaborating with the design team daily and the early sharing of structural reinforcement concepts helped limit costly changes to the structure and maintain the project schedule.
Thank you to everyone who attended our Cleveland office open house! It was a pleasure connecting with everyone and we look forward to it again next year.
We were honored to participate in People Working Cooperatively 2024 Repair Affair. PWC strengthens our communities by providing critical home repairs to help residents remain independent and healthy in their homes. Who better than having structural engineers build a new deck for a homeowner? We know this deck will last the test of time and provide the homeowner with ease of mind when using it.
Happy work-iversary! Congratulations on another year, and here is to many more.
We are excited to welcome Aaron Lacy. Aaron joins THP as a project designer.

Western Kentucky University's Gordon Ford College of Business has reached a significant construction milestone with a topping out ceremony to celebrate. This achievement is a testament to the hard work, creativity, and collaboration of the entire design team. Congratulations to everyone involved!
THP provided structural engineering services for the renovation of the former Macy's-anchored building adjacent to Fountain Square in downtown Cincinnati. The adaptive reuse project includes 150,000 SF of office space and 35,000 SF of retail/restaurant space and is part of city's plan to enhance the Fifth Street corridor. THP was brought on as a sub-consultant due to our previous experience with the 1990s-vintage building, which was originally envisioned as a 27-story tower. Three main challenges during the renovation included resolving large infills by closing old escalator and other openings with steel infills and tying them back into beams and columns, reskinning the building with new high-performance curtainwall and supporting steel structures, and adding cantilevers on the building's southeastern corner due to the previous diagonal entrance not fitting the new design.

THP was the consultant for both parking and Parksmart certification for the Nashville International Airport's 7,000-stall terminal parking garage. THP exceeded the owner's expectations by delivering a design that tripled the original parking capacity and delivered more bottom-line dollars to the owner. The double-threaded helical ramp enables quick entry and exit, while the advanced parking guidance system makes it easy for drivers to find parking stalls, reducing emissions throughout the garage. The parking equipment incorporated license plate recognition, which eliminates user confusion and provides significant security against scamming the system. The valet and employee layouts were designed to enhance the safety of the garage. THP provided a proactive maintenance manual to educate the owner about best practices for prolonging the life of the structure while minimizing repairs. The energy-efficient design reduces operating costs and meets the client's goal of achieving Parksmart Silver certification.
The University of Cincinnati's Memorial Hall, one of the original campus buildings, was built in the mid-1920s to commemorate World War I. The four-story building features terra cotta gargoyles, nurses, and soldiers on the cornice and is made of multi-wythe masonry with steep sloped slate and built-up roofs over a steel frame and concrete structure. The restoration included the replacement of the slate and EPDM roofs, as well as terra cotta embellishments, some of which weighed over 1,000 pounds. Nearly 30% of the original pieces required replacement due to distress not visible from the outside. Since there are only two places in the US that make terra cotta, THP chose instead to use a specialized concrete fiber mix to replicate the pieces on site. Custom molds were made from each of the original pieces, resulting in over 1,300 replicas. Four replacement gargoyles were reinforced with custom steel for added strength, and a heat-resistant coating was applied to protect against future wear. The building now stands as a symbol of the University's commitment to preserving its history.

THP was the parking consultant and structural engineer for the 4,300-stall ConRAC facility at the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport (CVG). The project consolidated rental car activities and placed them closer to the airport for increased functionality and ease of use. Our knowledge of garage design helped determine entry/exit locations, traffic flow, bay heights, helix locations, and floor heights. THP also contributed experience beyond layout design, such as where to locate fueling and fluid storage, and knowledge of the local weather for salt and corrosion considerations. The project included a Ready Return Facility, Quick Turn-Around Facility, and a Customer Service Building.
Happy work-iversary! Congratulations on another year, and here’s to many more.
Last week, our very own project engineer and University of Cincinnati graduate, Riley Christolear, presented to the Structural Engineers Association of Ohio UC Student chapter. She discussed her transition from student life to working full-time, and talked about projects she is currently working on. Riley encouraged students to consider incorporating specific areas of interest in their course work, like the historic preservation certificate of study she earned as part of her undergraduate degree.
