Guest Teaching at the Hawthorn Woods Country Club for the 2nd week! Woo Hoo!
I shared this photo with my daughter and she replied: "Did you think when you were like in an actual wheelchair that this is what you would be doing in a few years?"
Never stop believing in the goodness that can come out of hardship. I am absolutely in love with teaching yoga. It gives me meaning, purpose, joy, strength, a quieter mind and remarkable new friendships. I would never have found this place, without having experienced a major accident and 6+ melanoma procedures in the last 5 years! One foot in front of the other friends.

A Practically Mindful Moment -
Below is a photo of me doing yoga in Paris, in front of the Eiffel Tower. It was 9pm, pouring rain, sideways wind and near freezing cold. My tripod fell over mid class, people walked scary close to me on the ground in Chaturunga, but I loved the challenge of bringing Mindful Movement to those waiting on Zoom, under even the most challenging conditions, because life isn't perfect social media pics and videos...hopefully my Yoga classes, imitate everyday life. You never know what will happen, where I'll be or how it will flow...but we will keep moving and breathing.
So let me ask you, does Yoga intimidate you? Do you scroll on social media and see perfect bodies in perfect pretzels and know immediately, "I'll never be able to do that, why try?" But do you also feel like you need to add movement to your life for longevity, agility, balance and wish you could feel more positive more often?
Then come give Yoga (Mindful Movement) a try with me. I am a Perfectly Imperfect teacher in Training. While I've been an active person most of my life, and I've dabbled in yoga from time to time, I didn't begin the journey, in earnest, until my late 50's and teacher training just this year at 61. I came to this practice to keep a well battered body moving, against its will. (aging, 3 months in a wheelchair, after an accident and 5 years of melanoma surgeries impacting muscle and movement, from legs to shoulders) I also find my attitude and outlook remains positive, more often. What I also found is A LOVE of Teaching movement to others. The results inspire me to keep learning, moving and creating classes that suit many different bodies. Yoga is for Everybody and Every Body Type, Let's spread the movement far and wide together!
If you have the desire to spend 50-70 minutes moving, breathing and then balancing it all by resting. (A fan favorite!). Head over to my website or YouTube channel to try it out. It's Free!
(Live in the Hawthorn Woods, Lake Zurich area and want to attend in person? DM me for the address)

I'm so Grateful to my new Lake Zurich Tribe for saying Yes! to allowing me to guide them on the mat in a variety of Yoga practices these last few weeks! Their infinite patience with my effort to "Learn to Teach" is remarkable! I'm off to visit family in France, but will offer Zoom Yoga and Chair Yoga a few times, while there. If you would like to join the tribe, you can find class times and links at https://www.practicallymindfullife.com/events
I'll populate the calendar in the next few days!

Perception, Perspective...Each time you come to the mat, it is possible to change your perception of yourself, simply by introducing yourself to new viewpoints and ideas about what makes you strong, capable, worthy of self love, ignoring temptations to compare yourself to others, on and off the mat. Choosing to believe you are enough, just as you are.
Below, I was touched when I walked into my yoga space to find "Ellie" with the sun on her face. When I looked at the photo, I caught my breath when I saw her shadow. It looks like a body builder to me. Did you know...Elephant mothers pass on their lifetime memories to their babies. In Thailand they are buying working elephants and offering them lovely days in the forest, no chains, no torture, no work. Giving the elephants warm, safe, confident, loving memories, thus changing the life of their babies. Additionally, they are teaching the community to embrace a culture of compassion toward elephants while still being able to "make a living in tourism". Can we do this for ourselves and positively impact our loved ones, by changing the way we speak to ourselves on the mat and throughout our lives? Thus changing the way we and others see us?

To some, waking to this view will make them giddy and delighted. To others dread. Both are acceptable reactions. How it impacts our attitudes/day, is our “choice”. Practicing Mindfulness can strengthen your minds ability to find positive reactions to the world around us. It can also teach us to love ourselves, regardless of our reactions.
We can practice mindfulness, we’ll never perfect it. It’s what makes us Human. Will your response harm you or others?
It’s worth an ask in these moments 💙
