May 14, 2022. Bartlett Lake, AZ. Bartlett Lake Boater Safety Day, sponsored by the US Forest Service. Though not a particularly busy day at Bartlett as far as large crowds, the event was a success when measured in qualitative terms, our PA team had an opportunity to engage and learn more about the three other agencies involved in the event, and we will continue to build on the relationship with our newest inter agency partner, the US Forest Service. We had two static displays, 10-07 Flotilla Staff Officer for Vessel Exams, Mike Stockton invested many hours with a stellar static paddle craft safety display featuring Objee the Bear and his story ( Objee is the mascot of the US Coast Guard Academy ). The other static display- Coastie, courtesy of our 10-07 Public Affairs partner, Flotilla 10-08's Jon Dootson. This static display may not be so static anymore thanks to a good Samaritan techie who stopped by the booth and was able to diagnose some potential fixes for Coastie. Flotilla 10-07's Flotilla Staff Officer Communication Services, Maria Boulas who is also pilot and participant in the AUXAIR program, had the opportunity to engage the pilot and flight crew of the Maricopa County Sheriff Department's Bell 429 Chopper. Last but not least the Desert Eagle team were able to have a pre National Safe Boating Week kickoff with completing 5 vessel safety checks!
With grateful thanks to our, the honorable Doug Ducey. The Governor has proclaimed May 21-May 27 as Safe Boating Week here in Arizona. Thank you Flotilla Staff Officer for Publications Sydney Hay for your continued good work with the Governor's office. National Safe Boating Week is but 11 days away, remember Arizona WEAR IT!
