This week is Bike to School Week, so we encourage our Carl Traeger Elementary families to ride their bicycles to school if they're able.

And again this year, we're excited to partner with the Oshkosh Community Bike Program, who donated nine bicycles and three helmets to some of our deserving students. We cannot thank them enough for their support and all they do for the Oshkosh community.

On Monday April 22nd a dedicated group of girls from our Girls Who Code club, led by Mrs. Monigal, participated in their Celebration of Learning. It was a wonderful event for nearly 50 girls to share their coding projects, skills, and knowledge with our many, many adult guests. After sharing their work, students received a certificate and enjoyed some delicious donated snacks. We are so proud of our Girls Who Code for showing bravery, resilience, creativity, and for realizing that they have a purpose for all the good work that they do in coding, school, and life! Way to go girls!

Thank you PSC!

Today is National Therapy Animal Day and I don't think there's a more perfect picture to capture what it is therapy dogs do! Therapy dogs help people feel safe and lets them know they are loved unconditionally. Sparty does an incredible job of this every single day at Traeger. Students are calmer around him and they have grown their empathy skills by recognizing his body language. When they're having a hard time, students know they can come get some puppy love to give them the boost they need to be successful the rest of the day.

So far this school year Sparty has been dispatched 101 times to students in need. Sometimes a student just needed a little extra love and some pets and they were good to be on their way. Sometimes a student needed to give Sparty a good hug and talk through what was bothering. Other times, words couldn't fix the problem so just sitting next to Sparty gave them the comfort they needed. Sparty has taken naps with students and walks around the building with them. He has responded to district-level crises and has supported students and staff who are grieving unimaginable losses. He helps people feel safe no matter what their need is.

Sparty has some magic in him. At Traeger Elementary we are lucky enough to witness that magic every single day. Our goal is to share that special therapy dog magic with every student in the OASD. We are so thankful for the generosity of the children in our community!

We recently received this sweet letter from one of the students at Carl Traeger Elementary school in Oshkosh. The students held a chewing gum fundraiser to raise money to help the homeless pets at our shelter. They donated more than $150 to OAHS!

One day isn't enough to show our love for our fabulous office staff! Each day this week a different grade level is honoring Mrs. Sander and Mrs. Berndt! We are so grateful for ALL they do!
