Rylin did a fantastic job of showing Daphne at the Boone County Fair. Kudos to Rylin for being so loving and kind with her, despite Daphne’s temper tantrums and escape attempts. Congratulations to both Rylin and Chase for the blue ribbons they won showing their goats today!

UPDATE: Sweet Merle found a home within minutes of posting. He moves to his new place this afternoon where he will happily be breeding new doe-friends. Thanks much, everyone. Goat folks are simply THE best!

Merle is a gorgeous, small Nigerian Buck. He threw some stunning kids. While he is purebred ND, the owners of his father lost their paperwork during a family crisis so we have been unable to register him. We are no longer going to house our own bucks - so we’d be thrilled if a hobby farm would consider adopting Merle. He’s just a couple years old and super sweet.

Located between Boone and Ogden

What a glorious day

Is this Heaven?

WELCOME to Forevergreen Acres' page. While we are new to the world of goats, we figured sharing our learning experiences, while they are happening, may be of interest to those who need a good laugh, who are curious, who think we may be/already are crazy, and those who are learning and loving all things goats, just like us.

HOW DID THIS ALL BEGIN? Our friend, co-worker, and neighbor, INSERT LIZ HERE, gave me a call when her first goat of the season was giving birth. I arrived just after two doelings were still born. One more sweet little doeling graced us with her appearance just after I arrived. The moment I held her, in all her glorious new-born wetness, I knew she had to be mine. Liz, using her "been there, done that" wisdom, said, "Of course you may have her." She then went on to warn me we had to have a minimum of two. NO PROBLEM!

WHAT A WICKED WEB WE WEAVE: In a strategic move, I called Randy and Justin (my cohorts in this hobby/crime) and asked them to come see the new goat. Once they both held her, they were hooked. That evening, we came up with the name of "Violet" for our sweet, first goat. FYI, Violet's mom is Lilly. Seemed only fitting. Spring flowers.

During the next couple weeks, Liz was knee deep in welcoming 15 new doelings and bucklings to her herd. I was able to witness another birthing, this time from Stella. Stella gave birth to two black and white bucklings. Unfortunately, the third kid in this birthing, needed help entering the world. He was unresponsive for quite some time. Liz didn't give up with vigorous rubbing, cleaning out his airway, and even giving him CPR. Miraculously, he began breathing and slowly moving on his own. He was the tiniest little sweetheart I'd ever seen. My first words upon seeing him, "He looks like a little piglet." We begged Liz to allow guys to keep him, which she kindly consented with caution explaining that he was terribly small and not in great health.
