Meditative practices are the root of many of the world's ancient spiritual traditions. They are now recognized by western science and modern traditions as beneficial to health and longevity. Hinduism, Buddhism, and Daoism each have huge stores of physical and mental exercises that have been developed all with one purpose: to make it easier to meditate and achieve deep internal stillness. Taiji, Yoga, Qigong, chanting mantras....

Now excuse me while I vent:
• I’m totally opposed to all duality!
So if you’re one of the 50% of the population that divides everything into Us Versus Them, please stop.
• It’s bad luck to be superstitious!
So please refrain from turning logic into just another form of magical thinking.
• I am happy to say that I am feeling very positive about my pessimism lately.
• But I really can’t stand it when people complain!
• And if you don’t stop berating yourself, I’m going to have to complain to you about you.
• So please either start expressing unconditional love or else GODDAMN YOU!
• And another thing: CALM THE F**K DOWN!!!!
Using your ability to daydream and imagine is a powerful tool in healing and wellness practice. Just for today, revel well in reverie, friend!
Hello, my dear friends,
Visualization is a gift that we received when we were born.
As children, we tapped into our imagination constantly as we played with our imaginary friends, drew pictures with our crayons, or built sand castles in the sand.
Unfortunately for many of us, this gift became buried under a mountain of “reality,” and we stopped accessing this beautiful treasure.
Now, as a adults we need to work a little more and dig a little deeper to allow our imagination to come to the surface.
Visualization allows our body to bring focused energy to those areas where you want to receive healing or want to rebuild your energy system.
Visualization directs the energy inside of you, to go where it can best serve you
Visualization also connects your heart, mind, spirit, and physical body together, so you can experience “Oneness,” that state where true power is unleashed, and true healing begins.
Many Blessings,
Chunyi Lin

Here are some thoughts on 2022, year of the water Tiger, from abbess Sarah Cherry at Temple of the Tranquil Earth! Happy new year to you! May we all thrive with compassion, peace, prosperity, health, friendship, and every beneficial thing!

What is usefulness, anyway?
"...Zhuangzi offers an essential antidote to this pernicious means-ends way of thinking. He demonstrates that you can improve your life if you let go of the anxiety of wanting to serve a purpose. To be sure, Zhuangzi doesn’t altogether spurn usefulness. Rather, he argues that usefulness itself should not be life’s bottom line."
How to be useless | Psyche Guides Follow the Daoist way – reclaim your life and happiness by letting go of the need to produce, strive or serve a purpose
Welcome to the new year! Without going beyond, or falling short, being able to let go when it's done or when we're not ready, may the year unfolding in 2022 flow in just the right way.

Do You Really Need a Big Destiny? I mean, one other than the one you suspect you have. Will it fit in the doorway? Match the décor? Can you feed it well? Thanks to a personal friend for summing this up. Be safe out there; we may be in for a rough ride moving into 2022 and these new guidelines will make things a bit less dangerous. Thanks, Amanda-
"New isolation (tested positive) and quarantine (exposed only) guidelines by CDC (there's a nice summary at the end of the link):
Positive and no symptoms may shorten to 5 days BUT MUST STILL WEAR A MASK FOR ANOTHER 5 DAYS, EVEN AROUND HOUSEHOLD CONTACTS (this is already not being stressed enough on the news).
Positive but have symptoms, continue to isolate until symptoms resolve, then STILL MASK FOR 5 DAYS.
Quarantine may be skipped ONLY if boosted (or fully vaccinated and not yet due for booster) STILL MASK FOR 10 DAYS.
Quarantine for 5 days only if remain asymptomatic, THEN WEAR A MASK AROUND OTHERS FOR 5 MORE DAYS. This applies to unvaccinated, partial vaccinated, or past the booster timeline for your brand.
Testing recommended on day 5 for anyone exposed."

In Daoist tradition, the winter solstice is the time when yin has reached its peak and will recede so yang, still delicate, but certain, can emerge. Welcoming the light back to the world; honoring the natural turn of seasons, is a traditional response to this time of year all around the world. It’s reflected and symbolized in every human spiritual tradition practiced to this day. Even though we’ve got quite a while left of cold weather, now is the time to begin planting seeds for the spring. It’s a good time to set aside some quiet space amidst the celebrating to meditate, seeking in the still dark hour that tiny portal of light that is your connection, your spark to life and belonging.
In honor of my ancestors, the Scots, the Irish, the Welsh, and Italians and who knows where else, the Americans, too; also the Chinese and Japanese sages and those from India who shared their wisdom with others so that it came on its way to me, I am grateful. To those who came before me who lived their multiple faiths, as true to the bone as they could- Pagan, Christian, Daoist, Buddhist, Hindu, Celtic, or Indigenous- and who lived so that I could live, I offer this post in hopes to inspire anyone who may need it. We are all One; this year, my heart is lit up large with the idea of this.
May the end of this year be like a collection of blessings for you to carry into the new year for your health, prosperity, and happiness.
Blessed be. Amen. So be it and so it is.
Happy Solstice, Merry Christmas, Season's Greetings, Have a Cool Yule, and all that jazz!

If the eyes are the windows to the soul, then the ears are what opens those windows to the sound of its voice. Five element theory views our sense of self, destiny, belonging in this world and being connected within it, being rooted in confident self-awareness as related to the harmony of elements in the kidney organ system, which opens to the ears. In the wintertime, it’s good to focus on getting to know yourself deeply, cultivating the water element qi that replenishes your mind, body and soul. Your ear health- both the physical ears and the way you hear the world are a crucial piece to knowing and trusting your own wisdom. Here are three practices that can help you exercise your ears:

How about an I Ching Journal? Less messy than a bunch of post it notes and the backs of open envelopes 🙂
If you are an I Ching enthusiast or are curious about learning to read the I Ching, I hope you will consider buying one of these journals.
These books give a place to organize your readings so that you can refer to them and review them over time, track developments, and journal your own intuitions, observations, and insights from the messages you receive in response to the question posed to the oracle. When designing the pages, I wanted to make it easy for a novice reader to use, as well as useful and interesting for those who are experienced at casting the I Ching, so there are places to track the moon phases, solar terms, themes, Chinese/English words, inverse, opposites, and more...

And while you're here, how about a little course?
Move like Qigong- a short introduction to Qigong basics that can be useful for any style of Qigong practice you might want to explore- how to help Qi circulate by posture, breathing, and focus, plus two single form exercises- one that trains how to work with Qi through gentle movements, and the other using mental focus to move and build Qi. Each part is a practice on its own; I put the three together in a “mini” flow that can be done in about 15-20 minutes a day. Though short, this course is not a quick link or a trendy hack. It is a peek at time-honored methods for health, and to start practice so you, too, can meet your challenges with flow and grace.

With practice, we can see that our wounded child is not only us. Our wounded child may represent several generations. Our mother may have suffered throughout her life.
Our father may have suffered. Perhaps our parents weren’t able to look after the wounded child in themselves.
So when we’re embracing the wounded child in us, we are embracing all the wounded children in our past generations. This practice is not a practice for ourselves alone, but for numberless generations of ancestors and descendants.

I concur! Please be careful out there with the misinformation being offered for profit.
I have had great success drawing on healing support from many types of alternative medicine. (A list is below.) These modalities have been crucial to my self-care for decades.
That's why it's devastating to see so much of the Wellness Community preach unsafe practices during the covid pandemic. Many practitioners oppose vaccination and mask-wearing. They've contributed to prolonging the pandemic and influenced many people to engage in practices detrimental to their health and to the health of those they come into contact with.
My resolve is to continue to seek treatment from practitioners of Integrative Medicine who have taken sane and smart positions about the pandemic. There are many of them. In fact, I think they are the majority.
But as for those practitioners who have undermined our ability to get past the pandemic, I rebuke them and their ignorance. I will not seek treatment with them.
Here are the types of Integrative Medicine I have benefitted from: naturopathy, acupuncture, Traditional Chinese Medicine, Somatic Experiencing therapy, cranial-sacral therapy, homeopathy, chiropractic, herbal treatment, massage therapy, osteopathy, visualization exercises, anthroposophical medicine, and Vitamin C IV therapy.

I have always loved this poem.
“Be nobody's darling;
Be an outcast.
Take the contradictions
Of your life
And wrap around
You like a shawl,
To parry stones
To keep you warm. ”

I've passed by this video several times as it's rolled through my feed. Finally stopped to take a look and I'm glad I did. This is so interesting and gives me some encouragement. I hope it does you, too.

Real people have real-world pain. People are craving safe space, respite from the onslaught of strife and stress, a little spa day here and there. You know, sometimes the spa is just the thing, and sometimes, it just an avoidance, prolonging the skirmish. The struggles of a person who is too busy, too burned out, too numb is not trivial- there is a price that manifests in mind, body, spirit. This mini course is not about “McMindfulness.” It’s not a shortcut out of your troubles; I don’t teach people to ignore their suffering or the struggle it brings. Qigong practice is not designed for that. What I am offering is to teach you how to use tools that you maybe didn’t know you had at your disposal to learn to be more centered and if not relaxed, at least not knocked off balance by the gusts of stress in your environment. As a practitioner, I am not really committed to the avoidance thing. If you aren’t either, take this course; learn a new way to move your soul. Real people also have real world desires to express their harmony and happiness with others. It's a balance, no?
Move like Qigong 2Wk Mini is a short course for sure, but not a “quick link” or a “hack”. It’s a beautiful first step on the pathway of a time-honored method of living. In learning Qigong, you will gather and grow your skill of meeting challenges more in flow, with grace, and from the center of your intelligent heart. When I started my own practice some years ago, I honestly was adrift, I didn’t know what I wanted, where I fit in, or how to change the course of a life I was outgrowing quickly. Although it didn’t happen all at once, the more I practiced, the more clarity I experienced and more often. I became centered and much more of a friend to myself.
Cultivation is what this practice is about- planting a seed, doing the practice to bring to fruition, then continuing to work with it as it blossoms, produces, and into the harvest. Qigong is not hard to learn and doesn’t require a lot of time to do, special clothes or equipment; not even more room than you need to wave to a neighbor.
No Zoom schedule to commit to, no more than a 2Week semi-guided practice- I demonstrate and give a little background- you learn the movements practice them each day, maybe journal your experience and you also grow. More and longer courses to come, for now, Imma just leave this here.

In honor of the full moon, a healing meditation-
Grandmother Moon / Full Moon Blessings
“In the quiet stillness of your heart you can hear your Grandmother's voice. Listen. Her wisdom shines in the light of the stars." —Grace Alvarez Sesma
Sharing this gentle moonlight limpia with you as it is a beautiful practice to do either by yourself, in a group, or with your family. While it is preferable to do this moonlight cleansing meditation outdoors, weather permitting, it also works if you're indoors and can be done standing or sitting.
After you have offered your initial prayers and made your offerings stand beneath Grandmother Moon so that her moonlight touches your body from head to toe. Ask that her high spiritual light flow through you and around you, removing all inner and outer obstacles to your good health, clear mind, healthy and loving relationships, and stable prosperity. Use your own words in describing your needs and if children are with you make sure to include their needs too or even better have them say them — even if it’s one word (eg, love, grateful, healing). Express gratitude for blessings received and those yet to come. This is a good time to mentally or out loud ask that clear guidance be given to you in a way that you will understand, regarding personal, work, family, or spiritual matters.
Afterwards sit quietly with a receptive and listening mind-heart. Once you’re done share a meal with whoever joined you (if in a group, potlucks are always a good way to complete the ceremony).
May our prayers unfold and manifest with ease, gentleness, and grace for our benefit and the benefit of Mother Earth and All Our Relations.
Con bendiciones,
Grace Sesma

Not a bad way to live come to think of it. If you did this what would you do?
'We have lived our lives by the assumption that what was good for us would be good for the world. We have been wrong. We must change our lives so that it will be possible to live by the contrary assumption, that what is good for the world will be good for us. And that requires that we make the effort to know the world and learn what is good for it.'
