Join fellow Alaskans on October 21st to enjoy Virginia's finest vineyards! This all-day tour will commence in the morning at 12:00 pm with a pickup site near Union Station. Exact details for pickup will be provided after RVSPs are collected. Members who join the tour will get to sample a variety of Maryland and Virginia's best wines as well as explore the vineyards where they are produced. The bus fare is covered for due-paying members. All participants are expected to pay for their own wine once at the vineyards.

Please RVSP to indicate your interest in participating. We have limited spots available so the State Society will be confirming with members individually whose spots on the bus have been secured. If you would like to bring a plus one, please indicate that in your RSVP, and we will confirm one week ahead of the tour based on remaining availability.

Looking for motivation to get out and be active this spring?

Since 2019, has been Alaska State Society’s coach for the 100 Miles in May Challenge. This Alaska-based challenge has attracted participants from around the world to come together for healthy competition between their coworkers, friends, and family. In May 2020, during the global pandemic, Dottie managed to recruit 55 team members ranging from her former classmates from days at the International School of Aberdeen, ADPI sisters, UAA alumni, AK-based folks, many former DC colleagues, and Alaska State Society (AKSS) members. This challenge has been a highlight of her year in reconnecting with friends from across the world with the common goal of getting active and Kickin’ AKSS (our team name). AKSS is happy to announce that Mary Peltola’s office has selected this year’s Cherry Blossom Princess, Samantha Wanner.

Today, Representative Peltola announced her selection of Samantha Wanner to represent Alaska in the 2023 Cherry Blossom Princess Program.

Samantha grew up in Chugiak, Alaska, and is currently attending the University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA) with a major in Health Science. In addition to making the Dean’s List at UAA, she has also been an Alaska Area Health Education Scholar, a women’s Power League of Alaska Mentee, presented a published paper at the Alaska Public Health Conference, and worked as a program facilitator with Premera to deliver baby boxes to expectant mothers in rural Alaska. Samantha also has a strong background in public speaking, ballet performance, and volunteering.

“I’m proud to select Samantha as Alaska’s Cherry Blossom Princess for 2023,” said Representative Peltola. “Samantha exemplifies the traits of the Cherry Blossom Princess Educational and Cultural Exchange program, including academic excellence, a deep interest in civic affairs, and a proven commitment to community-minded service. The Cherry Blossom program has welcomed many incredible Alaskans to its ranks over the years, Including our own Senator Lisa Murkowski, and I am confident that Samantha will be a strong addition to this community.”

Samantha will be celebrated at a Cherry Blossom Princess Reception hosted by the Alaska State Society on April 13th at the Credit Union House in Washington, D.C.

UAA Chancellor Sean Parnell and the Ted Stevens Foundation invite you to join them for an exciting upcoming event in Washington D.C. Meet UAA alumni and fellow Alaskans to reconnect with your university, and hear about UAA’s work creating opportunities for Alaskans. The event will feature a presentation on the Alaska Leaders Archive. This exciting new project will advance civic engagement, and preserve the legacy and historical records of Alaska leaders. The event will be hosted by the UAA Alumni Association and the Alaska State Society.

The time has come to select the 2023 Alaska Cherry Blossom Princess! Every year, offices within the delegation take turns selecting who will hold this title. This annual event takes place in early April to celebrate a young woman over the course of a week. Each year, a woman between the ages of 19-24 is selected to participate by a member of the Alaska Delegation. This year, Rep. Mary Peltola’s Office will have the opportunity to choose a representative.

The Alaska State Society is collecting resumes of potential applicants to pass on to Rep. Peltola's office for consideration. If you or someone you know is interested in this year's program, please email [email protected].
