Platte Valley Goats

Platte Valley Goats

We raise registered Lamancha dairy goats for show and for milk. We do have a website if you would like to browse through our goats.

Quality pasteurized milk is available for pickup at the farm throughout most of the year, fresh or frozen.

We used the incredibly nice weather this week to clean pens...clean sheets feel great! Bricksie, Glori and Hallie were very happy. Hallie's due date is Feb 9, likely triplets or quads on Ultrasound. Hallie is the black and white doe.

Platte Valley started off the kidding season 2 weeks ahead of schedule. Bricksie (Lap A.I. to Lucky*Stars HD Lugosi) kidded on day 135, generally too soon to be viable in most cases however we managed to save 1 buck out of triplets (2 bucks, 1 doe). So we have a guest in the house, loving all the human attention but he will have to wait until next week for some baby goat company when Hallie kids. Bricksie's udder looks good, still a bit of mess so will attach a photo of her udder last year as a yearling.

Show season is over, breedings are set, Lap AI's have begun, 2 new jr. Herdsires about to get some action and the website is updated!

Laparosopic AI's
Katamaran x +*B SG Rockin-CB KWY Jiangxi
Bricksie x *B Lucky*Star's HD Lugosi
Hallie x Altrece Cosmopolitan
Hollywood x Olentangy Channing Kryptonite.

We wound up the show season at Nebraska State Fair. Hallie and Bricksie traded 1st and 2nd place in yearling milker classes (2 ring show) and we introduced Seaduction and Geneva to their first show (neither was particularly impressed with that first showring experience but they both acted like seasoned pros by the time we loaded the trailer to go home naturally) Seaduction 1st both rings, Geneva 1 x 3rd, 1x 4th.

Both young bucks were in super-rut for pictures, they both are nice lengthy bucks when not all scrunched up trying to breed anything that moves. It's amazing we got a couple pictures that were not pornographic.

Katamaran had another great showing at the Flatwater Classic in Wahoo this weekend, getting her first ever Best in Show! She was Best of Breed in both rings and went BIS under Judge Joseph Larson. Finally got some pictures of this pretty doe as well as her pen mates Hallie, Bricksie and Glorianna. Hallie getting 1st under Joseph Larson, Bricksie going first under judge Kris Fraley and Glori getting 3rd in both rings.

We had a great time at the Sunflower Doe-Down Dairy goat show in Salina, KS yesterday! Unfortunately, we did not get show day pictures but were very happy with the 4 does we took down. Katamaran, 2nd freshening 2-year old finished her Championship winning Champion LaMancha in both rings. We were also pleased with all 3 Milking yearlings we took with us. Bricksie was 1st place milking yearling in ring 1, 2nd place in ring 2, switching places with Hallie who was 2nd place in ring 1, 1st place in Ring 2. Glorianna was 5th in ring 1, 3rd in ring 2. The only pic I did take at the show was an udder pic of Bricksie while on the milkstand, so I grabbed a quick pic of Hallie's udder just before milking this morning. Katamaran really had a great day, we are so proud of this 2-year old who really hit her stride this year. We will absolutely get some pictures of her after we get the trailer unloaded, clothes washed and some sleep!

Zelda looking heavy, confirmed bred most likely by backup breeding to Hobe Kat. That same breeding produced Bricksie, one of my favorite kids last year. Zelda's expected due date is March 18, Bricksie was bred to Quincy for May 1 kids.

It sure is dark at 530 chore time. These are yearlings with the exception of one old gal, PrimaDonna to keep everybody in line. 3 yearlings are bred (will get ultrasound next month to confirm), 2 will remain dry.

Please be on the lookout for a mountain lion that has been sighted near Murnen Ave. & River Street. Families should visit with their children about being alert for this animal when walking to school or to the bus stop. The district has notified Buffalo County Sheriff Department.

Took two of our bucks for buck collection last weekend. The boys behaved and they are officially in the tank! We collected Jukebox Hero and River Tach. Both these bucks are getting used on a number of our best does this year.

27/09/2021

Tonight we highlight Platte Valley Cherry Coke. Cherry is a 3 year old and has never been shown until this year because she was a bit overweight and smaller in stature than her pen mates. She turned the corner as a 3 year old and surprised us going 4 X 1st place 3 year old at shows we attended this year. Cherry has probably the most level topline in our herd, along with a tremendously smooth fore udder. She will be bred to Quincy for March kids, 2022 kid reservations available.

105 degrees so did a goat wash today. They loved it. I made the mistake of putting fly spray on everybody right after the rinse. I didn't realize they would get in line to get a 2nd wash!

Some nice surprises on this month’s milk test, topping the herd was 5 year old Karma, daughter of Kismet at 17.4 pounds (one gallon is 8 pounds). First Freshener 2-year old Kokomo, who broke our record for first fresheners last month at 14 pounds was up to 15 pounds this month breaking her own record. Kokomo is a 2 year old first freshener out of Kryptonite.

Our goal when we started doing milk testing was a minimum of 8 pounds per goat per day. Yearling Grazie (daughter of Karma, sired by Kryptonite) should be up with the rest of her herdmates in a week or two.

It's been a busy month and half with kidding-Why is 3:00am the preferred kidding time??? We started Feb 1st with Kat Ballou who had twins out of Rockin CB Hoku, buck and doe (YAY!) a beautiful correct set of kids. Next was ZombieApocalypse with 2 really nice does out of Kryptonite (Double YAY!). Most of the kids on the video are predominantly black or dark sundgau. Zombie's does are easy to pick out on the video as large Chammy (light brown with black stripes) and the large white and black sundgau standing to her right, Like their mother they are large and correct. Kat's buck is black with small white splash on his head, her doe is mostly black but she has a peek of brown from the sundgau influence on her hips and is quite tall and stylish. Other kids: Hannah had a single black doe out of Kryptonite, Cherry coke had twin bucks out of one of our new Jr Herdsires Quincy-very nice! (not pictured, they are in another pen), and First Freshener Kokomo had buck and doe twins out of River Tach-sundgau buck and black doe with frosty white ears. Kokomo was a pleasant surprise with an udder that is very high, a beautiful showy udder arch, excellent attachment and a ton of milk. She is our first Kryptonite daughter to freshen.
