Today marks the beginning of Women’s History Month, a time to celebrate the remarkable contributions women have made and continue to make in every field of life. This month, I want to spotlight the dental profession—a field where women are increasingly recognized for their expertise, dedication, and innovation.

In recent years, the percentage of women in dentistry has been steadily rising. As of my last update, women constituted approximately 34.5% of all dentists in the United States, according to data from the American Dental Association (ADA).

However, when we look at the representation of Black women in dentistry, the statistics reveal a gap that still needs bridging. Black women dentists represent a smaller fraction of the profession, with about 3.8% of all U.S. dentists being Black, and an even smaller percentage being Black women. These numbers highlight the ongoing need for diversity and inclusion within the field, ensuring that the dental profession truly reflects the diverse society it serves.

I am immensely proud to serve in a profession that is gradually becoming more diverse and inclusive. This Women’s History Month, let us all recognize the incredible women dentists who are making history today through their hard work, resilience, and dedication to their craft.
