This week, members from Dunaway’s civil engineering team, Caleb Milligan, PE, and Quinten Plumer, P.E. held a seminar on Modern Roundabouts in the the city of Taylor, Texas - Municipal Government

Individuals from surrounding jurisdictions listened as the two discussed a range of topics, including the history of roundabouts, safety and key advantages, capacity analysis, design principles and considerations, and case studies.

Congratulations to the City of Fort Worth, Cook Children's, and JPS Health Network on breaking ground at the Las Vegas Trail Neighborhood Health Center! Dunaway is proud to be providing planning + landscape architecture, civil and structural engineering, and surveying services on the center, located at the corner of Calmont Avenue and Cherry Lane in west Fort Worth.

Scheduled to open in 2025, this two-story, 40,000-square-foot health center will provide pediatric and adult medical services, behavioral health services, social services (including a food pantry), community education, and on-site job training for healthcare industry positions.

Dunaway was proud to attend the topping-out ceremony for Cedar Park Public Library last weekend. Located approximately 16 miles northwest of Austin along US-183, the new library will feature unique areas based on the needs and dreams of the Cedar Park community, in addition to “messy” and “high-tech” makerspaces equipped with high-tech 3D printers to foster creativity.

As Jim Penniman-Morin, Mayor of Cedar Park explained, "the crown jewel and the beating heart of this city is this library."

Dunaway partnered with the City of Cedar Park, Lake|Flato Architects, and RedLeaf Properties to provide civil engineering services, including grading and utilities for the new two-story, 47,000-square-foot library, which is expected to open in mid-2024. Congratulations to all involved!

Recently, Dunaway’s own Discipline Lead and Associate, Tara Lindberg, PLA, ASLA, LEED AP, led a tour and gave a presentation of the City of San Antonio World Heritage Office for the ULI San Antonio - Urban Land Institute Placemaking Local Council Group.

Each month, the group visits a new site and observes how different spaces in the community are contributing to placemaking as a whole. The World Heritage Center building is a part of a larger campus, and it was important for this space to be scaled correctly to fit into the already highly used location.

Kimberly Mirelez, PMP from COSA Arts also took the time to discuss community involvement in the project and how the community contributed to the selection of the artist and art piece designs at the center.

Behavioral Health facilities host several different patient populations – ranging from pediatric and adolescent to adult and geriatric – all of which require unique spaces for varying levels of care.

In the second of our three-part series focused on behavioral health, we sit down with Discipline Lead and Associate Principal, Anita Beard, PLA, ASLA to explore how the next generation of behavioral health centers are prioritizing comfort, in addition to patient care.

Last week, Dunaway’s own Tom Galbreath, ASLA, took part in a “Candid Conversation” event hosted by the Fort Worth Report where he and other panelists from the City of Fort Worth and the TRWD - Tarrant Regional Water District discussed the existing flooding issues facing north Texas residents.

“We’re trying to overcome 50 to 100 years of the wrong approach,” Tom explained.

Discussion focused on how public and private partners can reduce existing flooding issues and prevent future floods exacerbated by the amount of concrete associated with rapid development. To learn more about the discussion, click the link below to read the article in full.

Dunaway is thrilled to be providing survey and planning + landscape architecture services on the City of Bridgeport, TX's Downtown Park – The Hub on Halsell. Recently, members from Dunaway's PLA group, Ashley Lewis and Stephen Cook, AICP, attended the Taste of Bridgeport event – where the public got to view designs of the proposed downtown park that will include a large event lawn, signature performance stage, and streetscape improvements that will highlight the City’s rich heritage.

We look forward to seeing the progress made as this project continues!

Dunaway is proud to be providing design and engineering services for two new catalyst projects in West Texas!

Sited on the former Nueva Vista golf course, The Preserve at Midland will provide 70-acres of mixed Office, Retail, and destination Food and beverage development, all oriented around a central green and utilizing a constant-level water feature. The Preserve will also include more than 100-acres of park space, including trails and other amenities for public use, and designed to alleviate flooding concerns in the surrounding neighborhoods.

Within The Preserve lies Zoo Midland, which will be the first new zoo built in the United States in over twenty years. With a focus on conservation and interactive exhibits, the non-profit zoo will create educational opportunities as well as become a regional destination for families.

Through Cristo Rey’s work-study model, local businesses cover about 50% of the tuition to the school through a sponsorship of students they select to work for them once a week throughout the school year – providing the students an opportunity to earn their tuition while gaining real-life experience.

Congratulations to Cook Children's and Linbeck Group, LLC on being recognized with two TEXO, The Construction Association Distinguished Building awards for both Cook Children’s Medical Center Prosper Hospital and the other for the Infectious Disease Unit at Cook Children’s North Tower!

Dunaway worked alongside HKS Architects, Smith Seckman Reid, Inc., and Linbeck Group to provide survey, civil engineering, landscape architecture, and structural engineering, in addition to construction and coordination with the Texas Department of Transportation on the design of new infrastructure for the new Cook Children’s Medical Center (CCMC) campus in the city of Prosper, Texas.

This campus is the first hospital CCMC has built outside of its flagship campus in Fort Worth and serves to support families in Collin County, Texas, one of the fastest-growing counties in the country. Congratulations to all involved!

Congratulations to Dunaway’s Business Development Director, Roberta Salas, on being awarded the 2023 Urban Land Institute Austin Member of the Year! Roberta is a proven leader with over 22 years of experience. Outside of Dunaway, Roberta recently concluded a two-year term as Education Chair for ULI Austin – where she helped launch a new program – Building Industry Leaders – a partnership between ULI Austin and the Boys & Girls Clubs of America

Dunaway would also like to congratulate Acc RioGrande on being awarded Best Project Innovation at the awards. Dunaway provided civil engineering services on the Austin Community College District's Rio Grande Campus and partnered with Studio8 Architects, Bartlett Cocke General Contractors, Overland Partners, and Architexas - Architecture, Planning and Historic Preservation, Inc. to restore the 100-year-old main campus building.

Since 2021, Dunaway has provided civil engineering site design and landscape architecture for over 50 new Dutch Bros Coffee locations.

Located across the state of Texas, including the DFW, San Antonio, and Houston metropolitan areas, Dunaway has worked with our architect partners to roll out a prototype site and building design that Dutch Bros has been able to efficiently replicate to expand their business.
