Just a heads-up about this public meeting regarding the upcoming U.S. Highway 34 lane closures to allow permanent repairs to the roadway. During the construction period, the east end of Viestenz-Smith may temporarily have vehicles/equipment parked on it.

US 34 Permanent Repairs Public Meeting
When: 6:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 20, 2016
Where: Ellis Ranch - 2331 Ellis Ranch Ln, Loveland, CO 80538

Construction activities will begin in August resulting in intermittent lane closures and traffic stops for rock-blasting and general construction operations between mile points 77 and 80 (from just east of Drake to the Cedar Cove area).

To help clarify the schedule and provide up-to-date information, CDOT will host a public meeting to explain this summer’s work and the traffic closure planned from October 2016 to June 2017.

Meeting Agenda will consist of:
* Formal presentation to educate the public about summer construction activities and lane closures along US 34 and clarify and inform the public about the traffic closures associated with work beginning in October, as well as an overview of the entire project
* Q&A session

Please note at this meeting CDOT will only be presenting information on summer construction and this fall’s Big Thompson Canyon closures. We will not be covering the specifics of the permitting process for Canyon residents or providing a detailed schedule for fall construction activities. These issues will be covered at public meetings in September once more information is available.

Design consultants from planning firm Logan Simpson have prepared plans based on the new and vastly different post-flood topography. Engineers from Tetra Tech have contributed analysis of the Big Thompson River’s hydraulics in its course through the park, 10 miles west of Loveland on U.S. Highway 34.

The City’s resulting vision for the restored park incorporates Logan Simpson’s design principles, makes Viestenz-Smith more resilient in the face of future floods and includes best solutions for reestablishment of picnic areas, fishing and river access.
