💥Experiencing a tree strike can be alarming and potentially hazardous. 😢 Here are the steps you should take immediately after a tree strike: 🙏🏻Ensure Safety: Keep away from downed power lines or damaged structures. Assume all downed power lines are live and dangerous. 🤕Check for Injuries: Ensure that everyone, including pets, is safe and accounted for. 🔎Assess the Damage: Look for structural damage to your home, vehicles, or other property. Check for any gas leaks, which can be indicated by the smell of gas. ☎️ Contact Authorities: Call emergency services if the tree strike caused significant damage or if there is a danger to people or property. 📸 Document the Damage: Take photos and videos of the damage for insurance purposes and further repair design. 🕵🏻Notify Your HOA board and Insurance Company, report the incident and start the claims process. 🙅🏼‍♂️Prevent Further Damage: If it’s safe, cover damaged areas with tarps or boards to prevent further damage from the elements. 👷🏼‍♂️Hire Professionals: Contact a professional tree removal service to safely remove the fallen tree or branches. Hire a construction expert to assess and repair any structural damage to your property. 🌳 Evaluate Tree Health: If the tree is still standing but damaged, have an arborist evaluate its health and stability. 🗒️Plan for Future Prevention: Regularly inspect trees on your property and have them pruned or removed if they pose a risk. 🤝🏻Your safety and the safety of others is our top priority. Always err on the side of caution and seek professional assistance when dealing with tree strikes and the resulting damage. #treestrike #buildingdoctor #damageinvestigation

We hate to burst your bubble... 💧 In this inspection, we stumbled upon more than just a typical paint blemish – it was a bubbling beacon signaling a deeper issue lurking beneath the surface. This scenario is actually quite common and a good reminder of the hidden dangers that can threaten the integrity of our buildings. SYMPTOMS: When you spot bubbles forming under your building’s paint, it’s not just a cosmetic concern – it’s a red flag. These bubbles often indicate the presence of moisture trapped beneath the surface, and where there’s moisture, there’s potential for serious damage. Best way to find out if there’s moisture? Poke it. DIAGNOSIS: Water intrusion is the most common and problematic threat to a building’s structural integrity. Whether it’s through cracks in the facade, faulty seals around windows, or compromised waterproofing systems, water finds a way in, quietly causing damage. Ignoring these seemingly minor bubbles can lead to major headaches down the line. Moisture trapped within the walls can promote organic growth, weaken structural elements, and damage metal components – all of which spell trouble for the longevity and safety of your building. TREATMENT: Early detection and proactive maintenance can save you from costly repairs and preserve the longevity of your building. Regular inspections by qualified professionals, prompt repair of any identified issues, and proper waterproofing measures are your best defenses against water intrusion. Remember, when it comes to building maintenance, it’s better to address the bubbles before they burst! 💧🏢 Read more about symptoms of damage: https://j2consultants.com/symptoms/peeling-paint-and-swelling/ #BuildingDoctors #BubblingPaint

There is a myth in the construction industry: Pressure treated beams are impervious to water. This is not true! We're seeing more and more projects that have pressure treated lumber that was not otherwise protected from the elements, and they are failing. The biggest problem with these rotting structural components is that the damage is virtually undetectable from the outside. We do have some tips for you to spot symptoms of hidden damage, and advice on what to do next if you find these symptoms on your building. Attend this month's webinar on BEAMS to find out all the tips for spotting hidden damage! https://bit.ly/4a7l6nI #buildingdoctors #buildingdoctorshow

Cracks in stucco are not always harmful, but they should be maintained to prevent damage. This building has a coating on one stucco panel and a very obvious difference on the un-coated sections. If you have any of these warning signs, you'll want to do more than just coat your stucco: 1. Structural cracks, indicating potential structural issues. 2. Wide or large cracks, allowing water infiltration and compromising weatherproofing. 3. Pattern cracks or clusters of hairline cracks, suggesting underlying movement or stress. 4. Cracks near corners or openings, vulnerable to water damage. 5. Cracks that reappear after repair, indicating ongoing issues. Regular monitoring and prompt repairs are essential to prevent further damage. Consulting a professional for assessment is recommended if unsure about crack severity. #buildingdoctors #stucco

Stucco: As we start seeing these dry and sunny days, do you suspect your stucco building is retaining water? Moisture meters are a great way to test it! 💧 Step 1: Choose your placement. We chose this area because there are visible signs of moisture even on a sunny day. We could see water drops on the bottom of the beam and a puddle on the ground below it. Step 2: Drill two holes in the bottom of your stucco coated beam. Step 3: Use the long prongs on your moisture meter to drive up into the wood beneath the stucco. Step 3.5: Take note of how "mushy" the wood is as you drive the probes in. Step 4: Take a look at your moisture reading and consult your instruction manual or building envelope expert for interpretation #stucco #waterdamage #buildinginspection #buildingdoctors

Here's a quick thing to think about while we're still in the midst of rain season. Your building has overhangs above doors and windows, so why do you need metal headflashing around those penetrations? When wind and rain combine, you'll have water pelting the side of your building, windows, and doors in places you'd least expect due to the angle the water falls at, often sneaking under your building's overhangs. #buildingdoctors #inspection #remediation #repair

"What did one board member say to the other when they saw the state of their building's roof?" "Dam." That isn't a joke! When it gets as cold and sunny as it is today, snow on the upper and warmer part of the roof melts and then refreezes when it reaches colder eaves or overhangs. This can lead to the formation of ice dams, which can cause water to back up under the shingles, potentially causing leaks and damage to your roof and interior of the building. To prevent this wintertime phenomenon, consider using a roof rake to get rid of all snow on rooftops and clean out your gutters to make sure cold rain and snowfall have a place to disperse safely. #buildingtips #buildingdoctors #inspection #repair #snow #winter #remediation #wintertips #ice #icedams
