Do you know where your vehicle registration is located?
Roadside during a traffic stop is not the best time to find your registration in a pile of paperwork that's accumulated in your glove box over the last few years.
Failing to produce license or registration when requested by a police officer falls under (MGL: 90-11) and is punishable by a $40.00 civil fine.
We are happy to report that in nearly two hours of traffic enforcement on Miller Ave this evening we didn't observe one substantial violation.

We would like to advise that we would not seek to gain any personal information banking or other wise or compensation via phone calls. If you have a doubt of a suspicious caller with our number please request the officers name and badge number and considier coming in person to report the call. Thank you for your understanding as we work to resolve this.
A friendly reminder from SPD that flashing emergency lights mean pull your vehicle to the right and come to a stop.
After following a vehicle with our emergency lights activated and initiating a traffic stop we often hear "I didn't know you were trying to pull me over."
While officers may or may not be attempting to initiate a motor vehicle stop on your vehicle; we still expect you to pull to the right and stop. Please keep in mind that we may also be responding to an emergency and need to get past your vehicle. Failing to pull to the right and stop slows our response time to calls.
We are here to serve you and doing so effectively is much smoother with the cooperation of our community!

We want to meet our residents while we are on patrol but would prefer not to make introductions on a traffic stop. Please wear your seat belt and encourage friends and family to do the same!
As part of National Telecommunications Week members of The Sheffield Police Department extend our gratitude to the men and woman of The Berkshire Regional Dispatch Center.
Dispatchers are often the first contact for those who are experiencing an emergency; and provide a calm reassuring voice.
Additionally, dispatchers are the line of communication between the people experiencing the emergency and resources in our community. They are tasked with getting and providing what can be rapidly changing information to responding agencies. Futher, dispatchers assist in facilitating necessary resources to each call.
Dispatchers are often not recognized because they are not seen in our community like Police, Fire or EMS however their roll plays a crucial part in keeping our community safe.
Sheriff Bowler and the staff at the Berkshire County Sheriff’s Office want to take this time to recognize those within the facility who are the calming voice on the other line during a time of need and the true first responders to every scene, our dispatch team! Thank you all for what you do on a daily basis. The community and us are thankful for your hard work, dedication and commitment in keeping all of us safe!

***Update: 💖 Saturday, April 6, 2024
Yesterday at approximately 3 PM this dog’s seven day mandated state hold was up, he was unclaimed, and he was available for adoption. The perfect person stepped forward! Piper now has an almost twin sister named Lark, and a mom that will take him on 2 to 3 mile walks every day. I think we can all say that sometimes, happy endings are real.

He is calming down and has had some vet care for his eye. His eye issue appears to be an ulcer and he’s being treated for it and should have a great recovery. There is a gentleman that thinks that it could be his dog that was lost in Connecticut, but it’s not looking like a perfect match so far. His legally required seven day hold will be up at the last hour on Friday. If no one has come forward, he will be going to the Berkshire Humane Society to be assessed for adoption on Saturday morning. It is definitely time to start thinking about getting him adopted. You should all know that he is a high energy, but very good boy. I’ll let you know if it works out with the gentleman looking for his dog.

We do have one lead. Someone contacted us from Connecticut that had an older puppy disapear two months ago, a male white shepherd. They posted him on social media and did everything they could to find him with no luck. They are going to come and take a look at him one day this week. We are still on the lookout for other leads.
Easter Sunday: There are no leads on this white husky type or white German Shepherd type dog. After a more close inspection, it appears that the dog is younger than we once thought and just has some kind of an eye issue.
He is very friendly and has a lot of energy. He will be held for five more days after today and an attempts for his owner to come forward . After that he will be going to a shelter like Berkshire Humane Society, if they have room for him, and will be adoptable. I don’t want to get ahead of myself because we are still hoping that we can find someone that is looking for him.
Did anyone else see this dog on route seven Friday? Do we have any information to help us figure out how he ended up on route seven between Ashley Falls and Sheffield, if not who the owner might be?
This white husky-type male dog appears to be an older dog with a cataract in his right eye. His nose is rubbed raw from trying to get out of some where and he is intact. He has a flea collar on and nothing else and he is not microchipped. He was almost hit by a couple of cars on Rt 7. Please text me at (413) 429-7603 if you have any information about where this dog came from.
Thank you.
