Greetings, I recently got a tick bite and went to Urgent Care. They prescribed 10 days of Doxycycline. ilads guidelines calls for 6 weeks so I had to contact my ND to get additional meds. She is prescribing amoxicillin.
NOTE: Urgent care provided instructions regarding disposing of a tick, no mention that you can send the tick in for testing and save $1,000.00s of dollars verses paying to have multiple tests done thru Igenex which is one of the few labs I trust. I did not have a tick to test. There are now approx 9 infections I may be testing for in the near future.
Do not destroy or dispose of a tick if you have one. Tickreport is generally the best lab. More info. will be posted next month.
On the West Coast, the spirochete that causes Lyme disease is carried by Ixodes pacificus or western black-legged tick. Ticks can carry many bacteria, viruses, fungi and protozoans all at the same time and transmit them in a single bite.
