There have been reports of a new strain of canine respiratory disease circulating across the United States. Symptoms have included coughing, discharge from the eyes/nose, fever, lethargy and occasionally the development of pneumonia. This is not canine influenza or the other more common respiratory viruses/bacterial infections (Kennel Cough). Coughing can last for weeks (to months in some cases) and is not responsive to antibiotics.

We advise the following:
-If you are concerned about your dog contracting an infectious respiratory disease, limit your dog's contact with other dogs of unknown health status.
-Keep your dog away from sick dogs.
-Make sure your dog is vaccinated for the other strains of canine respiratory illness like Bordetella and Parainfluenza.

If your dog is showing symptoms:
-Keep them away from other dogs; no doggy day care, dog parks, boarding, groomers until they stop coughing for a minimum of 2 weeks.
-If your dog is coughing or has clear discharge from the eyes/nose but is still eating, drinking and has a normal energy level, supportive care at home is all that is recommended. Make sure they are staying hydrated and eating. A cool mist humidifier can be used. Any discharge can be gently wiped away with a damp cloth.
-If your dog is not eating well, not drinking, has green/yellow discharge from the eyes or nose, severe lethargy, has labored breathing, or symptoms are not resolving after 3-4 weeks then please contact our office to schedule an examination.
-We ask that you keep any symptomatic dog in your car to limit exposure to other dogs in the waiting area. We will es**rt you and your pet directly to a room.
-If your pet is in respiratory distress, please seek emergency care.

Although rawhide chews come in lots of fun shapes and sizes, your dog can easily chew off and swallow large pieces, leading to a potential choking hazard or intestinal obstruction. What’s even worse is how rawhide is created: rawhides are a by-product of the leather industry and are washed and sterilized with a variety of (often harmful) chemicals, such as sodium sulfide, lime, chromium salts, bleach, and hydrogen peroxide. It is then molded and dyed to form what you see in pet stores today.
Please avoid them at all cost, no matter how pretty they market them!

Wild felines regularly ingest plants, and it seems to be a behavior that our domestic cats have inherited from their ancestors. Many cats eat plants because they enjoy the taste. Others consume plants because they are bored, stressed, or attracted by the movement of the plants.

Symptoms of toxic plant ingestion include:

Vomiting

Lethargy

Diarrhea

Drooling

Nausea

Weakness

Please call your Vet if you are concerned that your pet may have ingested any of these house plants πŸͺ΄

Just want to pass some info along since it has been nice a warm, and looks like it will continue for a bit. This pic is from one of our warmer sunny days - it a K9 cool coat. Yes I have a coat on QuBee on a hot sunny day!!! It does an amazing job of keeping her cool and you can even cool them down more by soaking it or spraying it with water. Works great!!!! Coat protects the UV rays from getting to their dark coats! I used these with ZeeDee at trials in the middle of summer and she ran great! You can get yours through Clean Run (clean run.com), maybe some other places as well. I know there are other cooling coats out there - some I have seen are very bulky and kind of a pain…. Other options for keeping the 4 legged kids cool are give them a pool ( even just getting their paws cooled can help), sprinkler, take them swimming, keep them in AC and when walking them - walk them at cooler times of the day if possible and of course clean fresh cool water. Wishing everyone a safe rest of the summer with your furry friends!! πŸΎπŸ’•πŸΎπŸ’•πŸΎ
