To make it easier for community members and employees to learn about and access our services and for other organizations to join in our efforts, Texas Health’s community health initiatives and efforts will now fall under a new umbrella – Texas Health Community Hope.

“By being a catalyst for positive change, we are providing the action that gives people help and, just as importantly, hope,” said Barclay Berdan, FACHE, CEO of Texas Health.

Texas Health Community Hope represents the outreach that we are doing in and on behalf of our communities to fulfill our mission to improve the health of the people in the communities we serve.

It is made up of six areas of programming and support: Community Health & Well-Being, Healthy Food Access, Emotional, Social & Spiritual Support, Community Collaboration, Public Policy & Advocacy and Employee Community Engagement.

“Texas Health Community Hope is the grants we award to organizations to fund innovative programs to help the underserved. It’s the food pantries we’ve placed inside schools and community centers in high-need ZIP codes that provide families access to healthy produce. It’s the resources and support we offer faith leaders and their congregations; the advocacy work we do for North Texans and their environment; and the countless hours spent volunteering to lift our communities and neighbors up,” said David Tesmer, chief community and public policy officer for Texas Health. “By showcasing this work collectively under Texas Health Community Hope, we can more clearly and better educate the community about the multiple facets of our community engagement efforts,” he added.

The longtime Fort Worth resident underwent a successful surgery that removed most of his pancreas as well as his spleen in February. Dr. Kimberly Washington performed the surgery at Texas Health Harris Methodist Fort Worth.
