It was a game of high stakes Marco Polo in the cold Alaskan waters. Fog kept the Copter from seeing them bobbing in the ocean but the guy’s cell phone actually worked! He was patched directly into the Copter’s crew.

Their son went out at 3am in a tiny fishing boat thinking he was just going to have a nice night doing what he loved. Little did he know, he would be swept out to sea. Waves would dump the boat over so he had NOTHING. No phone, no water and no hope. 36 hours later, he got really, really lucky.
We produced the package and got to meet the USCG heroes involved and the family. They couldn't have been more grateful.

Overnight shoot were we needed the smoothness of our Ronin DJI 4d to capture a specific Semi Rig making a delivery. Sometimes you have to pickup the camera and do it yourself. I did kick a cup of coffee into the front seat when I wiggled out of the sunroof. Amy is a great driver/director and the footage is like butter. This wasn’t easy but it was FUN! ! When Suzanne Somers wrote this book she was ahead of her time opening up about the trauma of growing up with an abusive alcoholic father. She was also a pioneer in women’s rights. After the show, "Three’s Company" was a major hit, she demand equal pay to the male actor, John Ritter...ABC fired her. (He made $150,000, she made $30,000 /eps.) We love her for her tenacity and she was Amy’s very first on-camera interview. She could not have been sweeter, more patient or more giving.

On October 5th, mOdat Video Productions joins the Coast Guard Foundation at the New York Salutes the Coast Guard Event to celebrate the members serving the Northeast area. mOdat video was recognized and received a 2023 Silver Winner Telly Award for their production of Heroes of the Coast Guard. We are honored and grateful to receive this award on such a special night!
In a daring mission, the Coast Guard rescued an unprepared mariner in distress amid 30 ft waves at the Columbia River Bar on Friday, Feb. 3. Units responded included two classes from the National Motor Lifeboat Training School, and the Advanced Helicopter Rescue School on what was their graduation day. The combined efforts of these crews along with Station Cape Disappointment saved the mariner as the disabled 35-foot vessel Sandpiper was capsized by a breaking wave. mOdat created this video to highlight their heroic efforts for the Coast Guard Foundation. Thank you Sector Columbia River for your help on this project.

Out in Oregon shooting another heroes piece for the at Cape Disappointment, otherwise known as the “Graveyard of the Pacific” where the Columbia River meets the Ocean. 30 foot swells are not uncommon, so it’s a great training area for Coast Guard Surfmen. Listened to while here, they call the station “Clammy 99.7!” Funniest radio logo I’ve seen in a while!
Guess what happened 29 years ago THIS weekend?! Woodstock 1994 and Amy was on scene for the whole thing!
