Hammered Inn Farm and Garden
Now into our 7th season of producing our Hammered Inn Sauce, we are excited to ship our yummy product straight to your door! Harvesting the spice of my life!
Visit www.hammeredinnsauce.com today! Hammered Inn Taste Full Hot Sauce is so very tasty. The sauce is made from hot paper lantern peppers grown on my farm in Earlysville, VA (along with other locally grown ingredients). My first batch was made in August 2012. In an attempt to gain feedback from the sauce, I gave away nearly 10 dozen bottles of the sauce to friends, family, and friends of friends

Visit a Farmers Market this week....

This is the time of year to really appreciate the farmers. Planting, harvesting, and animal care are a lot of work under tough conditions, and now it looks like our area is officially in a mild draught. Buying locally is one step we can take to reduce our carbon footprint that is contributing to this global heat. Remember to bring your own bags and containers, or come to the Market Central booth to pick up a free bag. Use our waste sorting stations to reduce compostable waste going into the landfill. Individual small steps can lead to a big impact.
Shop early tomorrow, Market Central will have a water cooler available, and bringing your own cup will help.
August 4-10 will be National Farmers Market Week. We look forward to presenting programs and activities to highlight and celebrate farmers markets in our community and invite ideas, volunteers, and collaboration to bring advancements to our markets. Together, we can do more!
A few artisan vendors have dropped out for tomorrow, but you can count on your farms, and many of your bakers and food preparers. The alternate and occasional vendors this week include Ryba’s Pierogi, Oro, Chaotic Good Tempeh, and Cookie Lane. Occasional and alternate crafts vendors include Blue Ridge Beeswax, New Wing Studio, and Hawksbill Pottery, so check them out while they are here this Saturday. The link below takes you to the vendor map and information about their products. We’re always available at the managers booth to help you find vendors, products, information, and to use SNAP or Senior farmers market nutrition benefits at the market.

The Paper Lantern patch is doing well, most plants are pushing pods already. We should be harvesting lots of pods by late July to start making sauce 🤗

Whoops! It seems I mistakenly brought back some habaneros grown on Andros Island from our Bahamas trip 🤪 I guess I will just have to dry the seeds and grow them out next season….🤙🔥

This early season Habanero Tabaquite has me excited!! This variety pushes lots of large, thin-skinned, fruity pods with a high habanero heat. Perfect for adding some heat and flavor to you meals. Fresh pods will be available late July 🤙

Peppers are really starting to push pods, really noticeable after we were gone for a week. This is a new variety for us this season, Thunder Mountain Longhorn 🤙

Come see us at IX Market, 8-noon in Charlottesville, VA. Last market with plants.

Kick off your Memorial Day weekend with a visit to the Farmers Market at Ix. With summer around the corner, the variety of produce you need to stay healthy increases every week. Greenhouse tomatoes and blueberries are now available. A recent article in Consumer Reports about pesticide residue in commercial produce strengthens the argument to support your local sustainable growers and ask them about their growing practices.
If you did not know it, Market Central and Bread and Roses are collaborating to offer classes to the community for home or business. A food/herb dehydration class will be held on June 3, taught by Michelle McKenzie of Bellair Farm. Waterbath canning (pickles and jam) will be offered on July 15, also taught by Michelle. Both classes take place at 6:00 p.m. at Bread and Roses, Trinity Episcopal Church, and are free with required registration: class registration More information is available at the Market Central manager's booth at the market.
The market is full this week, hopefully we can fit it in between rainstorms. We are open rain or shine.https://marketcentral.org/new-blog/2024/5/24/farmers-market-at-ix-may-25-2024

Quite a few pepper plants are pushing pods in the garden, but this Hatch Rattlesnake is the over achiever of the season!

Just like last season, a Sugar Rush Peach is putting off the first pod! These plants are an exercise in patience waiting for pods to ripen, this is a good sign of another solid season 💪
