House on the Hill Farm
We are a small farm located in Carthage, NC. We are simply a family operated hobby farm with a few rescue horses and dogs.
We have rescued Amish neglected horses from the Kill Pen and dogs that have had a rough life.
Even the horses and donks get a special Christmas dinner. Poker was soooo excited. The donks about mowed me over when they smelled oats, apples and carrots. Merry Christmas from House on the Hill Farm . ππ΄
The Lord gave us Ernie for almost 6 years. He's taught us patience, understanding, and trust. He came to us a scrawny rack of bones and we slowly gained his trust and got him healthy. He worked hard all of his life and was discarded by the people he helped plow many fields. He found his retirement home here with us and learned how to "horse" like the rest of our crew. Poker was his first friend here on the farm and was the one to show Ernie how to graze, nap, roll and come to the fence and beg for those yummy snacks mom keeps in the car. I've always prayed we would know when it was time for him to cross over the rainbow bridge and that he would already be laying down. Good heard my many prayers and granted it today. We arrived home from WV to find Ernie down in his favorite spot, he'd been fine about 1.5 hours prior. He was tired, but almost smiled when I got to him. I knew immediately the way he looked at me that he was ready for his greener pasture. I never left his side and held his giant sweet face and talked to him while Daniel cooled him down with water and Leah held the giant umbrella for shade and we waited for the vet to come. My big man laid there and kept his eyes on me until he took his last breath. He waited on us, he needed us, he knew we would help him, just like we did years ago. Today at 2:45pm we gave Ernie the best home he could ever imagine with no work, no struggles, and lots of cookies and hay. With one last Ernie "growl" he took his last breath and a big piece of my heart with him... We'll surely miss you big man. β€οΈβ€οΈβ€οΈ Thank you to Diana Beraglia Matthews for coming to be here for us and to Dr. Mercier with Polaris Equine Services and Justin Mcleod with 4Hooves Large Animal Services for handling our boy with dignity and compassion. I cannot say enough wonderful things about these folks. They made an extremely difficult time seamless and peaceful especially given Ernie's size. Ernie is now resting peacefully in the pasture that gave him his freedom.
From all of us at House on the Hil Farm, we hope your Easter is full of blessings. He lives, He lives....salvation to impart. βοΈβοΈ
Tomatoes haven't been the greatest this year. These were all we got this evening. We now have enough to make a batch of salsa tomorrow evening. It sure is a LOT of work for a small yield. The summer heat has destroyed them this year.
πΊπΈ Let us take time to remember those who paid the ultimate sacrifice so that we may be able to to enjoy the freedoms that we often take for granted. God bless our uniformed patriots who gave their lives for us. Let us always remember them. πΊπΈ
It's always traditional to plant at House on the Hill Farm on Good Friday. The fun starts tomorrow. π π₯π₯π»
My little greenhouse is serving me well. Wow. I have enjoyed so much nurturing these babies. From seed to plant. In just 2 weeks some of these will be making it in the ground. Can't wait to get in my garden.
The girls are getting an Extreme Coop Makeover. ππ₯π‘
New addition to HOH Farm. This is my birthday present from my girls. Please note the instructions that it came with. They were NO HELP at all. π€·ββοΈ I managed to build this bad boy in one hour. Then...I started 176 π plants. Tomorrow, I will plant 50 zucchini seeds, 50 squash seeds, 50 cucumberπ₯ seed, 50 πΆ seeds. I am excited to grow my own plants from the seed. Planning on putting away as much food as I can because it's getting more and more expensive in the store. We all better consider some homesteading options.
A great morning for a nap in the sun! Good morning from House on the Hill Farm!! π π΄π

πΊπΈ π Look at these beauties. No better way to say "Happy Veterans Day" from our family to those who have served. Thank you veterans and today, we salute you. πΊπΈ π
*these model horses do not reside at HOH Farm, we just like these patriotic beauties*
Its just one of those...hard to get up kind of mornings. π€
Never a day off on the farm here at House on the Hill farm. Wow! Tomorrow will be a day of canning and processing more spaghetti sauce. Shew!! 75 pounds of tomatoes ready to go. Vines are still loaded too. Thank you Lord. π π π π π π π π
Only WV folks can appreciate weiners and peppers. Canned 9 pints of this WV delicacy. ππΆ
Thank you Lord for your blessings on me. Today's garden harvest. π π π π π π
All natural dog food being made on the farm this evening. Overall our dogs look healthier and they are eating healthier. No processed dog food here. Ground turkey, white rice, brown rice, peas, carrots, and green beans. Throw in a little pumpkin and sweet potatoes and Waaalllahhhh! Dinner is served.
Today's garden crop. The tomato vines are loaded down. Spaghetti sauce will be in the making next week. Thanking God for his blessings on our crop. Thankful for some giving chickens too. π π₯π
Summer time on the farm. Our garden is going to explode while we are away. Vacation prep is hard. Blackberry bushes are loaded and the garden is full. Our little farm is full of blessings. Even fuzzy little worms.
A day in the life of the House on the Hill hens.ππ₯
And so it begins. The pepper plants are loaded down and so are the tomato vines. I'm afraid everything is going to be ready for harvest while we're in the Dominican Republic. Let the good times roll.
The girls are in full production here at House on the Hill Farm. Woweee!! I sure do feel sorry for the poor gal that laid this one on top! It had to be a triple yolk. It is HUGE. We'll crack it open tomorrow and let yall see the inside. π₯π
The blackberry vines at House on the Hill Farm are loaded down with nice green berries. Who doesn't love a fresh blackberry cobbler? π₯§ Berries will be coming on in a few weeks ready for eating. π
The garden is in its 4th week and it is doing so well. If we could have a good rain shower it would help. We have to water it about 30-45 minutes a day to keep it going. They are growing and we have some tomatoes and peppers on the vines. Hoping to have a nice bounty of crop this year to can and preserve for fall and winter. Nothing better than your own veggies. Today we made trellis' for the plants and staked them. The garden got plowed too. Thankful to God for the opportunity to have a garden and how He blesses our family at House on the Hill Farm. π πΆπ₯
