Earlier in the week we had the honor of hosting Chief Craig Harper of the Peoria Tribe of Indians of Oklahoma at a City Council meeting. Chief Harper was in town to dedicate the new duck decoy cases at the Peoria Riverfront Museum. The cases were made by master craftsmen from the Peoria Tribe and commissioned by the Museum for the Center for the American Decoys. We enjoyed the time we spent with Chief Harper and look forward to continuing this friendship as we learn more from each other.

Thanks to the The City Of Peoria staff, Mayor Ali, and the Peoria City Council for approving our newest mural, "Live Greater." Now it's time to get to know the talent behind the art--Alex Carmona.
Alex Carmona is a master relief printmaker specializing in woodcuts, reduction woodcuts, and wood carvings/engravings.
His works are revered for their detail, craftsmanship, and scale. In his short career as an artist, he has gained tremendous notoriety by creating woodcuts and marketing material for some of the biggest names in the music and automotive industry.
Alex is an ambassador for Speedball, one of the largest and most respected names in the world of art and printmaking. He is also an ambassador for Tormek, a Sweden-based company with a leading brand in the sharpening of edge tools. His handmade prints and wood carvings are displayed all over the world. Alex's automotive artwork was among the first to ever be publicly displayed in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for the 2019 Global Auto Salon, a worldwide automotive festival.
Alex served his country for ten years before he made the transition to full-time artist. His brand continued to grow within the automotive industry by traveling the world and selling his woodcuts and original prints. His growing influence and distinctive style has attracted the Specialty Equipment Marketing Association (SEMA), Fender Musical Instrument Corporation, The Miles Davis Estate, Tormek, among many other large-scale corporations. Alex is a proud Colorado native, and now resides in Peoria, Illinois, where he continues to create and expand his printmaking abilities.

The city of Peoria is pleased to announce the appointment of Chester “Chet” Tomczyk as the Peoria City Treasurer, effective August 28, 2024. “Chet Tomczyk brings a wealth of knowledge and a proven track record of leadership to this vital role,” said Mayor Rita Ali. “With his track record in our community, we are thrilled he applied for the position. I am confident that his expertise will ensure our city’s responsible fiscal practices.”
In his new role, Tomczyk will be responsible for the administration and management of the collection, verification, recording, and depositing, of all taxes, fines, and fees due to the city.
The City Council and the community-at-large extend their gratitude to Stephen Morris for his service and contributions to the city during his tenure. The consolidated election for City Treasurer will be held April 1, 2025.
