DTF sponsored Sanilac County Jr. High Track Meet. May 5th at 4PM at the Carsonville - Port Sanilac High School Track & Field. All seven county school districts will be participating.
After the schools are able transition fully to the T.E.A.M. (Teaching. Educating. And. Mentoring.) program we will begin to identify the DTF Jr. High sponsored track meet as the annual T.E.A.M. Jr. High Track Meet. (Covid issues have held back full implementation as the schools have focused on their students educating needs in recent times.)
We have invited the T.E.A.M. instructors from your communities to attend the track meet if they are able to do so.
Please come out and support your students from your participating school. The CPS is planning on having the concession stand open as well.
Thank you for the support in the track meet over the last 30 years!

2021 Sanilac County 4-H Fair in Sandusky.
The winner of the girl’s bicycle was 9-year old Skyler Kolakowski of Marlette – daughter of Larry and Nicole Kolakowski.
The winner of the boy’s bicycle was 11-year old Alex Aben of Applegate – son of Ashley and Richard Sanders.
The Drug Task Force would like to thank Lynnette Lawrence-Kirk and the L.K. Insurance Agency in Sandusky for providing space for the bicycles to be raffled.
The drawing is in support and awareness of the DTF Millage supported T.E.A.M. Education in the Sanilac schools systems. During the period of shutdown of our drug education services in the schools due to Covid-19, the Drug Task Force Board and local law enforcement switched from the D.A.R.E. Program instruction to T.E.A.M. ( Teaching – Educating- And – Mentoring).
It was felt that the Michigan State Police based program provided a larger coverage of current issues that the students would deal with in grades K-12 and could be individually structured for each area school and what was going on in their communities.
Local T.E.A.M. instructors include officers from the City of Sandusky, Marlette, and Villages of Deckerville and Peck. A Sheriff’s Deputy is being scheduled to cover Croswell – Lexington Schools, Brown City School, and Carsonville- Port Sanilac. This program can start when each school is able to safely allow other instruction activities.

We are once again sponsoring the Junior High Track Meet for all Sanilac Area schools on May 06th starting at 4PM. Please check with your area schools to see if they are participating in this event being held at the Croswell - Lexington High School Track & Field area. Dan Dean, Deckerville schools is overseeing the event as we try to re-engage the students when it can be safely done.
Sharps Take-Back Event
BAD AXE, MICH – In observance of Earth Day, McLaren Thumb Region’s Community Education Department is hosting a Sharps Take-Back event on Thursday, April 22, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
“Sharps'' is a medical term for devices prescribed for at-home management of medical conditions. Types of sharps include needles, syringes, lancets, auto-injectors, infusion sets, and connection needles/sets.
Sharps brought in properly contained, puncture-proof plastic containers will be accepted for drop-off in the McLaren Thumb Region’s hospital lobby vestibule.
"There is often uncertainty in the proper procedures for safe storage and disposal of used sharps," said Yvonne Prill, Community Educator at McLaren Thumb Region. "Exposure to used sharps increases the risk of disease and other sicknesses. If sharps are not safely stored in FDA-approved containers, they shouldn't be thrown away, and sharps cannot be recycled."
McLaren Thumb Region is providing an opportunity for community members to safely dispose of sharps to help minimize landfills and reduce possible risk factors associated with improper disposal practices.
"We want to encourage safe practices for disposing of used sharps. Taking the extra time to ensure they are disposed of in the proper procedure helps keep others safe and also helps our community's environment," said Prill.
Only containers approved by the FDA should be used for sharp storage and disposal. These containers can be purchased from a local pharmacy, or use these commonly-found FDA-approved household containers:
Laundry detergent containers
Fabric softener bottle
Bleach bottle
Before participants bring their sharp drop-off, they should ensure the container is not above three-quarters full, and the lid is sealed tightly to avoid the risk of needle-stick injury.
For questions about the Sharps Take-Back event and the proper storage procedures, contact Yvonne Prill at 989-269-2882 or at [email protected].
