Why do some students disengage from class?
Educators Douglas Fisher and Nancy Frey share key challenges to student engagement – and a few ways teachers can break through those barriers:
Latest resource is out: Learning From Mistakes Repair Plan - Restorative Behavior Reflection Think Sheets. https://bit.ly/RepairPlanRestorativeBehavior 💜
Grounded in a Restorative Practice framework and the assumption that all behavior is a form of communication, these Repair Plans invite students who have broken a school rule or expectation to reflect on what they've done, to voice their unmet needs, to consider others who have been impacted, to make more helpful choices in the future, and to make amends to those who have been harmed.
Will have sheets and a mini-lesson, too And will be added to the "Calm Classroom Bundle” if you already have that!
So important! 🙌
Helping your child learn to self-regulate is a process with ups and downs. Learn to see the signs!
Sketchnote by based on ideas by Stuart Shanker - Self-Reg
Since negative beliefs and self-sabotaging thoughts can do harm to our quality of life and physical health, we can utilize that process and flip it to our benefit—using our mind to heal the body. But the catch is that we have to be willing to dig into the toxic beliefs in order to grow.
A belief is a statement about reality that we believe to be absolutely true—but that doesn’t mean that it is. A belief may be holding us back from reaching our goals and feeling truly content and we may not even be conscious that we have it.
I’ve experienced how powerful it can be to recognize limiting beliefs and do the work to change them. I knew that I had traumatic experiences as a child that impacted me as an adult, but I had no idea how deeply they were affecting me. Working with a coach helped me identify the root of the belief (similar to the Functional Medicine approach to health) so that I could see the pattern and begin reframing what I know to be true.
My coach and good friend Shelly Lefkoe joined me on a past episode of The Doctor’s Farmacy to talk about this. You can listen to our conversation here: https://bit.ly/2Lx5ELV
Educator Ms. Slaughter posted these Coping Skills in her classroom and I think they're KEY to this year's success!
Number 1 on my 'classroom management plan' will always be: build relationships. It's the foundation for everything else.

Have you ever felt completely at the end of your tether with a challenging child or young person?
Sometimes when we feel "stuck" with a child or young person and nothing seems to be working and we start dreading seeing them again what we need is a self-intervention. Instead of trying yet another strategy to change their behavior, what we need is to change the way we view the behavior. And more often than not, changing the way we view the behavior, changes OUR behavior.
It seems paradoxical, but changing HOW we see, changes WHO we see.
