‘Which Union Should I Join?’ - Texas AFT Every year when school starts, we see and hear the same question from educators and staff: “Which organization should I join?”

The 15-member Texas House Select Committee on Educational Opportunity and Enrichment held hearings July 11-12 without public testimony. We didn't love all of what we heard, but we were encouraged by conversations about the basic allotment. The committee is scheduled to release a report of recommendations on Aug. 11, so we need to remind the committee that we want fully funded schools, not private school vouchers. Click here — https://actionnetwork.org/letters/house-select-committee — to send a letter to the members today.

Manor AFT on 05/15/23 addressed the board of Trustees and new Superintendent, asking for a salary increase for educators and support staff. Along with a request for the district to concentrate on workplace safety in the 2023-2024 school year.
Unbelievable - Voucher schemes that are opposed by a majority of Texans are being voted on by the House Public Ed Committee TOMORROW in the form of SB8.
Committee members haven’t even been briefed on the bill yet. Call the members of the committee and tell them this: vote NO to vouchers.
Please join us as we support our brothers and sisters in Austin ISD!
It's time to show the district that We Know Our Worth! Join us as we rally at the school board meeting on April 27th. RSVP for updates at https://rb.gy/va88v

This Thursday, a proposed state budget with ZERO DOLLARS guaranteed for school employee raises will hit the House floor for a vote.
This budget is UNACCEPTABLE. 77% of educators are considering leaving the profession; we MUST hold the line on across-the-board raises for ALL school employees.

This morning, the Senate Education Committee hears FIVE voucher bills.
🚨 Email your senator & remind them that Texas can afford fully funded public schools. Or it can have vouchers. It can't have both.
