The 757’s favorite Grateful Dead tribute band, Grateful Jed will be bringing the vibes and our local lineup of food trucks Moon Tide Sundries, Ghost Kitchen, and Joysicles Gourmet Pops will be on site 🍽️

Due to the strong chance for rain and thunderstorms tomorrow, July 18th, Sunsets on the River featuring Grateful Jed will be postponed until NEXT week to ensure an amazing time for all 🙌

Virginia Zoo and Chrysler Museum Members visiting the Hermitage Museum & Gardens will still be able to enjoy complimentary admission to the Sunsets on the River concert on Thursday, July 25th from 6-9pm!

Participating visitors can present their active membership cards (or membership purchase receipt) at the Member check-in table at the entrance for free admission!

Monoprinting & More | Ages 9-12
This week, campers will learn the rules of printmaking and how to break them by experimenting with a variety of processes such as: reduction, dried watercolor, and collagraph printing.

🗓️ July 29-Aug 2
🖼️ Art Swap! Prints, Posters & More | Ages 11-15
This week, campers will learn about traditional printmaking methods to create posters and prints and then swap with classmates, bringing home a new collection of art!

🗓️ August 26-30
🧘 Shadows in Art & Yoga | Ages 6-10
This camp offers a unique blend of movement, self-expression, rhythmic breath, and imaginative art projects inspired by the principles of Shadow Yoga, that include: poseable sculptures, yoga flip books, a sun salutation collage, silhouette portraits, shadow tracing, and natural light shadow art.

🤏 Small Wonders + Tiny Treasures | Ages 6-10
This week, campers will explore beauty and wonder in the little things as they explore the art of storytelling and memory keeping through small objects and treasures, sculpt miniature scenes out of clay, and build their own treasure boxes.

From July 8-12, campers will explore the art of journaling while learning a variety of art-making techniques, including: painting, drawing, and collage 🎨📖

Traveling was a tremendous source of inspiration for the Hermitage Museum’s founder, Florence Sloane. Records traced her visits to over 25 cities in 10 different European countries between the 1920s-1930s! 🗺️ An avid appreciator of culture, world history, and a well-versed art collector, Florence’s mission was to bring arts and culture to her home in Norfolk, Virginia. Today, we’re honored to continue her mission by providing experiences for our community to educate and immerse in exhibitions, programs, events and more 🙏

🎙️ Dan Mathews is a Portsmouth-based author and animal advocate, with two memoirs published by Simon & Schuster.

🎙️ Leila Stephanie is a performing artist, actress, acting coach, and Young College Professor at 
NSU B.S. Business. 

🎙️ Bill Geroux is a former newspaper journalist for the Richmond-Times Dispatch and an author of two books, The Mathews Men and The Ghost Ships of Archangel. Bill is a longtime resident of Virginia Beach with a long history of enjoyable travel misadventures.

🎙️ Sylvie Green is a writer, educator, and actor (who you may recognize from the POSSES$ION Immersive Theatre series at the museum!)

🎙️ Noah Renn is a writer and educator living in southeastern Virginia. He is the author of the poetry chapbook, Sinking City.

🎙️ Shawn Girvan is the Adult Literary Program Director & Associate Executive Director at Muse Writers Center. He loves to learn, and has attended film school, comedy school, improv school, English school, writing school - and bartending school.

Norfolk’s Waterfront Estate

The Hermitage Museum & Gardens was founded by William and Florence Sloane in 1937 and includes their collection of fine and decorative art housed in an Arts and Crafts style mansion. The Sloane Collection spans 5,000 years, represents 30 countries, and includes over 5,000 objects. The Hermitage offers exhibitions, outdoor concerts, year-round classes and art camp, gardens and wooded walking trails, and is a popular location for weddings and private events.
