Happy 10th RE-Birthday! 30/05/2022

FROM THE DESK OF SHEILA CALDWELL:
Today is my RE-birthday. At this time, 10 years ago, I was struggling to crawl from my sofa into my home office to get to my cell phone to call for help. I am beyond blessed to celebrate this milestone and I wanted to share just 10 things I've learned since surviving a cardiac event at age 50. Please feel free to share this short video with the women in your life.

Our Story

If you are a woman reading this, chances are, you already have at least one risk factor for heart disease. Despite the fact that heart disease kills 6X the number of women each year than ALL of the cancers combined - including breast cancer - about half of women still don’t know that heart disease is our #1 killer or about their own risk for heart attack or stroke. In the US, around 90% of women over the age of 18 have one or more risk factors for heart disease. Studies show that about half of the 400,000+ women we lose each year could have been saved if early detection and intervention had been done.

Yes, there are a lot of scary statistics when it comes to women and our heart health. The disparities in research, intervention and care following a cardiac event only add to this potentially tragic future. But, there is HOPE.

It’s this message of HOPE that we want our #RedHeartMamas to share with the women in their lives, their families and their communities. Yes, heart disease may be one of our greatest health threats but we still have the power to change this and it is easier than you think! While there are risk factors like family history, gender, age and race that we cannot change most of the risk factors leading to heart disease CAN be prevented or managed. We do not have to live with this disease much less die prematurely from it.

What does it mean to be one of our #RedHeartMamas? First of all, it means you are taking the pledge to take control of your heart health The really good news is that the same lifestyle you adopt to achieve this goal also prevents many other diseases including several forms of cancer! We want YOU to become your own best advocate for your own heart health and help us raise AWARENESS that we can change the outcomes for ourselves and our families.
