The Indian Ocean is on fire.
While Sept was a bit slow for the big stuff, October has exploded. We’re currently getting blasted with swell over the last couple days and good news, there’s plenty more on the way.

The Indian Ocean is in a great place at the moment with one of the bigger swells of the year in route for next week and the rest of the month is looking super good. Overall, we have high expectations for October so if you’re free, jump on it.

Another super reliable Goofy-Season left in our area and one of the most user friendly lefts in the Mentawai. Great low tide option and always super fun with SW swell and SE winds.

A bit more fickle but when it’s on, it’s one of the best lefts in Indonesia. Still super fun in-between big swells but once a solid swell turns SW, the year’s best lefts go down at EBay.

It’s been a tough month for grommets and we’re calling on your help again. One of Dylan’s closest friends, Westen Hirst () was recently in Aceh, Indonesia with Dylan for a National Olympic contest where both Dylan and Westen battled it out with Dylan just coming ahead. Westen headed back to Bali with Dylan and Westen was unfortunately involved with a bad motorbike accident shortly after. He spent Sept 19 - 26 in the ICU Hospital with a ruptured spleen, blood in his lungs and kidneys and also a vertebrae fracture in back that requires surgery. He’s recently been released but needs to wait until his spleen fully recovers to have his back vertebrae surgery to remove the broken bone. His Insurance only covers a portion of the medical costs and we’re calling on the Kandui Community for help.

Westen is one of the best surfers to ever come out of Indonesia but more importantly, he’s one of the most respectful, kind groms we’re run across. He’s been to Kandui countless times and we’re calling on the Kandui Community to please help get Westen back to 100%.

We’re getting this question a lot lately so look no further than the next couple posts. While there are plenty of other spots not well known but this will give you a good idea of what waves to expect during our Goofy-Season.

Goofy-Season l Kandui Left

Hands down the heaviest, fastest wave in the Mentawai and where Indonesia’s best left hand barrels go down each year. At double overhead plus, it’s a very intimidating wave but at a couple feet overhead, incredible barrels go down every swell. Each year, countless frothers get the wave of their life.

Help Ifran Recover and Surf Again

Anyone that’s visited Kandui Resort over the last couple years has most likely run into Ifran. Ifran is a 16 year old local Mentawai surfer from the nearby village of Pei Pei and All Day Dylan’s best friend. Inseparable since the 3rd grade, Dylan saw a massive amount of talent in Ifran and asked his dad, Ray if Ifran could start spending more time at Kandui and that soon meant Kandui home school, afternoon 4Bobs and over the last year, the 2024 Indonesian Contest Tour (Nias, Krui, Bali). With the help of Ray, Dylan, Kandui, his family and Pei Pei Village, it’s been such a cool experience for someone without the financial means to get the opportunity to represent his Mentawaiian village and shoot to become the Mentawai’s first pro surfer.

Dylan and Ifran recently traveled to Bali for an upcoming contest in early August and while warming up at the heavy lefthander Padang Padang, Ifran pulled into a barrel, the lip landed on his leg and shattered his femur bone breaking it in 2 pieces. Ifran immediately needed emergency surgery to stabilize his leg and now has a very long road ahead to recovery.
