I don’t look for these kinds of things. I just do my job. Study everyday to get better. Help those around me get better (if they’ll listen, lol). I have no ego to bruise in my field. Ego gets you hurt. It will take your eye off the ball.

Part of the complete protection plan for a principal includes protecting their identity, online presence and a plan in place of someone was to get access to accounts, identification, medical information etc.

Identity theft costs us a ton of money and time to fix ourselves. Here are a couple tips I share during my talks to employee groups and clients.

1. Trust your gut. If an email comes your way like a PayPal invoice or Apple receipt, and it doesn’t look or feel right…do NOT click on links in the email.

2. Do NOT click anything that requests to “verify your account” or “confirm delivery address”. These will come from fake USPS or Apple emails, even Wells Fargo.

3. Call and ask the company that emails you something you don’t recognize. Always confirm they sent the email BEFORE you click anything.

4. Big one lately. Fake PayPal invoices are being sent out. Some even say “thank you for your payment”. These are designed to get you to click links. DON’T!!

PayPal only invoices, they do not collect payment from you unless YOU do it.

If you know about these scams, great. But this is a multi billion dollar industry because people do click on these links everyday!

Stay aware and these tips will help you from being a victim of a multi billion dollar a year scam.

What do we suggest as protectors and investigators?

You need to know what's going on around you to avoid being followed home, robbed while putting groceries in your car, or while on your phone. Bad guys look for the moment you are distracted to pounce.

This is a example we train on. When you’re distracted, you have no chance of making up the reaction time it would take to stop the attack.

From 21 feet, a person with a knife can reach an untrained person faster than the other person can pull out a firearm. This is because the attacker has no reaction time; they know they are coming for you, while the other person doesn't. When the attacker starts, they can cover 21 feet in less than 2 seconds. It will take you the same time to react. Too late.

Finally, there are three indicators before ANY crime or attack. You can identify one or more prior to any attack, but ONLY if you are paying attention.
