π¨ Attention Southwest Idaho Residents! π¨ Pertussis (whooping cough) cases have spiked in our region, with reports including a hospitalized newborn. It's crucial to take action to protect ourselves and our loved ones. Public health officials recommend vaccination for pregnant women and those in contact with young children.
Pertussis can be severe for all ages, but it's especially dangerous for babies. Did you know about 1 in 8 infants with pertussis develop pneumonia? π± And in rare cases, it can be fatal. Many times, it's spread unknowingly by caregivers who mistake early symptoms for a cold.
The good news? Pertussis is preventable with vaccines like DTaP and Tdap, available at doctors' offices, health district centers, and pharmacies. Ensure your family's protection with timely vaccinations according to recommended schedules. π
If you've been in contact with someone diagnosed with pertussis or are at higher risk due to age or health conditions, consult your doctor about preventive measures. Let's stay informed and take proactive steps to keep our community healthy. πͺ
