Help us congratulate our June Associate of the Month!

💪🏼 Stephan Galloway 💪🏼

Stephan is a Journeyman currently working with our team at Nutrien. Here's what his supervisor had to say about him:

"Stephan has been an associate on our site for a number of years. He has a daily 2-hour commute from Bogalusa and he's always on time. Through the years, he has been a lead in the electrical field, whether it's being a leader in safety, training and mentoring new hires, or doing great quality work. He showed great leadership not too long ago when he was troubleshooting lights on a vessel known as the 'gorilla scrubber'. While troubleshooting, Stephan realized he would have to go inside of an energized panel and instead of taking a shortcut and opening the panel, he stopped, assessed the situation, and got his supervision involved. He filled out the appropriate paperwork, got the proper PPE, and got the required permit from operations. He was recognized for this by Nutrien and received some complimentary gear for his efforts. He really is a leader in our industry and a leader with ISC."

Help us say a big THANK YOU to our May Associate of the Month

👷‍♂️ Bobby Choate 👷‍♂️

Bobby has been with our team at Shell in Deer Park, Texas as an instrument fitter for the last 5 years! Here's what his supervisor had to say about him:

"Bobby checks all the boxes for associate of the month plus some. He displays both integrity and leadership skills as he can lead a group from start to finish or execute individual tasks in a timely and safe manner. Bobby has been recognized by the client on multiple occasions for his input on priority job executions. Bobby utilizes his stop work authority to ensure his peers are safe. He also attends daily leadership meetings with the client and site contractors to discuss tasks and the hazards associated with them. Bobby's attendance record is impeccable as his schedule fluctuates in non-routine maintenance. No matter what schedule he is working on, he always has a positive attitude and passes that on to his co-workers. Bobby steps up when needed and goes above and beyond his job responsibilities without asking. Bobby is a mentor to the younger crafts and a great person to have on our team."

Bobby, thank you for using your leadership and extensive knowledge to strengthen the ISC team! We're thankful to have you out there at Shell Deer Park.

🦺 It's Construction Safety Week AND Electrical Safety Month 🦺

Safety is something we are really passionate about and too often it's taken for granted. No one expects to get injured, right? Yet, our safety on site depends on everyone making 1,000 little choices every day.

We're so proud of our team and the outstanding safety record we've maintained over the years. Your dedication to doing each task correctly is appreciated by us and by the families of those working alongside you.

Here are a few quick reminders of some big safety topics at our job sites 👇

Congratulations to our April Associate of the Month!

🎉Jairo David Lares 🎉

Jairo is currently a Foreman at Phillips 66 in Westlake, LA. Here's what his supervisors had to say about him:

"Jairo shows the ability to lead and also work with the group to work at the level of quality and efficiency that ISC needs to complete all projects on schedule. Jairo starts every day on time and all his permits and paperwork are flawless. His team skills are unlike any other associate I have seen; other employees feed off of Jairo's productive and craftsman-like nature. In turn, I have noticed when people work alongside Jairo, their skill level and productivity increases. Safety is another area Jairo excels in. He takes the time before the end of each shift to make sure all fab area is barricaded, and the tools are in proper working order. If one is out of place, I am notified immediately."

Jairo, we are so proud to have you on our team! Thank you for all you do and for being a great leader on site.

🎉🎉Help us congratulate Mr. Ivy Braud on his retirement!

"Mr. Ivy has been a pioneer in the industry for nearly 40 years. He has spent nearly 30 of those years at Shell Norco working with the maintenance, project and security groups. He has finished his career (Thursday March 28, 2024) with ISC for the past few years and I can see how someone like Mr. Ivy can work at 1 place for 30 years. He is just one of those guys that you can always count on to get the job done with safety and quality being most critical. He is a good man filled with pride and integrity."

Thank you for your years of dedication, Ivy. Enjoy this next phase of life to the fullest!

We had such a great time competing in the National Craft Competition in Kissimmee, Florida!

Our very own Joseph Wilcox, an associate from Texas, along with Jared Granados, a high school student we sponsored from Texas, competed in the 2-day Industrial Electrical competition.

The competition is divided into written and hands-on components. Each contestant must bend conduit and successfully complete an installation based on drawings they receive.

Thank you for representing our company! We are so proud of you and your efforts!

Drop some 👏 in the comments for our March Associate of the Month!

🎉 Bo Cleveland 🎉

Bo is currently working as an Instrument Fitter with our team at DOW in Orange, Texas. Bo's supervisors had some great things to say about him when they submitted their nomination. Check it out 👇

"Mr. Cleveland is a long tenured ISC associate that can always be relied upon. He performs quality, efficient work and does so in a safe manner. His installations at the Dow Orange facility have garnered kudos multiple times and it is not unusual for him to be requested by name to perform work by the client. For example, Dow circulated an email recognizing Mr. Cleveland's craftsmanship and safe installation.

Mr. Cleveland's attitude also stands apart. He never complains and you never hear 'that isn't my job'. Attitudes are contagious and bad attitudes can dampen the morale on a project. Those that work alongside Mr. Cleveland experience just the opposite. I was told by Dow that they audited Mr. Cleveland's lift inspection, Dow paperwork for the lift and JSA. Everything was in order, but they were impressed with the manner in which he handled the audit. Everyone has various reactions to the audit process, but Mr. Cleveland was very positive, interacting with them and told them he appreciated them taking the time to do the audits.

Mr. Cleveland provides a great example to others through his craftsmanship and attitude and is an easy choice for this nomination."

Bo, thank you for being a man of integrity and positivity. We are so thankful for all you do and that you chose to be a part of the ISC team!

Women in Construction

Freeport, TX Team

Left to right are Monica Cabrales, Leighanna Austin, Tasha Morehead, Jennifer Mejia, and Jessica Turner.

Monica has been in construction for about 8 years and has had a variety of roles, from carpentry to pipefitting to Scaffolding Coordinator and says the best part is being able to tell her kids what she does for a living. She says the most valuable piece of advice she’s received from a mentor is to “always tie off 100%”!

Jennifer has been in construction for about 14 years and encourages women thinking of joining the industry to, “just do it and don’t let other people’s opinions stop you just because they think construction is a man’s world.” Jennifer shared that in her time in the industry, the most significant thing her mentor taught her was that “it doesn’t matter how hard a task is, if you’re patient, it will get done. Don’t take shortcuts!”

Jessica has been with ISC since January and sees Tasha as her mentor in this industry! “Tasha Morehead she was the reason I decided to join ISC. I cannot thank her enough for training me, teaching me the ropes and giving me ALL the advice she could when it came to this position.” She says the best part of her job is that “my coworkers are amazing. ISC is honestly a team.”

“Growing up my dad was a welder; my brother is a heavy equipment operator. They used to always say “you going to work in the plant??” I would always say ‘NO way’. My dad passed away in 2021. I’m now working in the construction industry, and I know he would be proud of me starting a new career!”

Ladies, y’all are AMAZING and we’re so proud to have you all on our team in Freeport, TX. Keep up the great work.

Women in Construction

Janelli Garcia

Janelli has been in construction for 1 year and in that time, she says her most memorable moment was when her work as a terminator was recognized. Her biggest piece of advice to women entering construction is to not be afraid of asking questions!

Janelli, we are so excited you’re on our team and hope you keep learning and honing those skills.

09/03/2024

Women in Construction

Sarah Pizzuto

Sarah has been in the industry for 5 years working in Purchasing. She says the best part of her job is being able to work with the guys in the field every day and the sense of achievement you feel at the end of a project. She also encourages other women to not be intimidated.

“The field may not give you instant respect, but once you have proved your worth, you’ll never lose it.”

We asked Sarah if there was anyone who had invested in her during her time in construction and she said, “Stan Spence is my mentor in this industry. He is very intelligent and always willing to explain something to expand my knowledge. He sees the potential in me and pushes me to do my best every day.”

Women in Construction

Kelly Duchamp

Kelly recently joined our Workforce Development Team in Ohio after working in the field for 23 years as an Instrument Technician. She studied instrumentation at ITT Technical College with the intent of going into sales. However, she went into the field to learn more about the application of instruments and “fell head over heels with the hands-on side” and never left. As she was reminiscing on the early days she said, “I remember first entering the construction field. I worked projects that had close to 3k contractors on site and had maybe 3 women across all contractors. Now when you enter a site woman are everywhere. It makes me smile.”

One of the things that Kelly liked most was that “instruments are constantly changing. No project or site is ever the same and I love all the people I get the opportunity to meet. I have been blessed to work with so many people, both men and women, who have taught me so much about the industry on so many levels. I believe that you can learn from everyone you work with if you want to learn. I love the industry! I have made a good living and met lots of great people.”

Women in Construction

Beaumont HR Team – AKA Michelle Hughes

Michelle has been in construction since 2000 and has worked as a Receptionist, Recruiter, Assistant, Office Manager, Payroll, and is now the Regional HR Manager at our Beaumont Office.

When we asked Michelle what her favorite part of the job was, she said, “Appreciation from associates for placing them on a job or if they are able to get a raise, bump in position etc. and they let you know what it means to them especially if they are going through an adverse time. It can be very humbling at times. Also, knowing I contributed to the growth of SETX!”

Michelle also passed along the wisdom she’s gained from others in her time in the industry:

“Shoot everyone straight… honesty is always BEST! Also, it can be tough at times. You really need to hold onto why you’re welcoming the challenge. Stick to your guns. Hard work pays off. And it’s ok to let them see you cry.”

Michelle, thank you for all you do to help SETX thrive! We appreciate you.

Women in Construction

✨Houston HR Team✨

Of course, we can’t forget our ladies over in Houston!

This trio are a force to be reckoned with. These amazing women are so great at helping us fulfill the promises we’ve made to clients. In fact, HR Manager, Sandra Lewis says one of her most memorable moments was ”when one of our Project Managers told me that during a Turn Around meeting with the client, they commended him for being able to supply the manpower as he had promised them, flawlessly. He appreciated how tenacious we were in fulfilling our promise, having everyone on site per the schedule and that the client truly appreciated our hard work.”

And it’s not just that they’re good at their jobs, they genuinely enjoy it. Lewis also said, “Getting the right people in the right jobs is my favorite part of what I do. Especially when you see someone you hired as an Apprentice become a Craftsman, then a Journeyman and get promoted to a Foreman. It’s a rewarding opportunity to not just hire someone and fill a position, but to see that person grow and excel in their field. You think – wow I hired that person when they were just starting out and look at them now.”

Ladies, thank you for all you do and for caring about our associates! We appreciate all your hard work.

☎️ Corporate HR Team ☎️

The hiring, the questions, the endless paperwork… these ladies are absolute ✨ROCKSTARS✨, and we couldn’t do what we do without them. From keeping our projects rolling with the qualified workforce we need to helping associates get the information they need, this team does it all with a smile on their faces. We are so appreciative of the work they do!

Women in Construction

Jennifer Clark

Jennifer has been in the industry for 10 years and has had a wide range of positions. From Firewatch to CR2 to Safety to Office Manager, she’s seen it all.

“One of my favorite moments was last year at Christmas time. We had an all-hand Christmas dinner where all our associates were able to bring a dish and celebrate the Holiday season together."

Jennifer says the best part of being a woman in construction Is that most of the time, you get your own bathroom! Jennifer shared a wise piece of advice to those thinking of joining the industry:

“Remember that we are all a team and support each other. One position is no more important than the other whether it be a green trainee in the field up to our superintendents. Show others respect and you will earn their respect in return. Also, as a woman, I love that I can show my daughters and grandchildren that you can excel and make a good life for yourself with hard work and dedication.”

Women in Construction

🛠Staci Montana🛠

Staci has been working with us as a Helper for about 6 months now and one of her most memorable moments so far has been climbing up a scaffold for the first time. Staci says the best part of her job is learning the trade, building her strength, and seeing a project gradually come together. Staci’s tidbit of wisdom for anyone thinking of joining the industry is to “listen, be prepared, and take notes!”

Staci, we’re so glad to have you on the team! Keep learning and honing those skills. You’re doing GREAT!

Women in Construction

🎉Renee Morgan🎉

Renee has been in construction on and off for about 10 years and believes the best part of her job is being able to provide for her family and having coworkers that are like family. Her advice to women who may be thinking of joining the industry or switching careers is, “If you can envision it, you can accomplish it. Knowledge is power and the more you learn, the further you can progress. Keep your mind focused; don’t get discouraged. It can be hard at times (like any job), but it’s worth it in the end.” An important change in the industry that Renee is excited about is that more and more women are learning trades and there’s larger diversity of people in the workforce. She’s also seen how new technologies have made the job easier since she first started.

Women in Construction

🧰Heather Lyons🧰

Heather has been in the construction industry for 7 years and believes the best part of her job is the people she gets to work with. She proud of the final product she gets to be a part of creating and says the most memorable moment for her was receiving the Integrity Award! She believes the most important change happening in the industry is that there’s a broader scope of people entering the work force which is creating greater diversity.

Thank you for being part of our team, Heather!

Women in Construction

⚙️Hedy Davalos⚙️

Hedy joined the construction industry as a helper in 2006, but quickly took an interest in instrumentation and began learning all she could in 2007. After leaving the industry for a few years to take care of her mother, she returned in 2018 to an amazing team who was willing to mentor her and help her regain her footing. After working with several other contractors, she was so grateful that the ISC team was so accepting of her in the workplace.

“My superintendent, GF, and foreman were instrumental in this journey. They recognized my potential and believed in me, even when I doubted myself. About a month into my return, they asked me to take the craft assessment. I passed with flying colors, which was a significant milestone for me and a surprise. Just two weeks later, they entrusted me with a Tubing run of my own. This was a pivotal moment in my career. I was both scared and thrilled at the same time. The fear came from the responsibility and the thrill came from the trust my supervision had in me. This experience taught me the value of resilience, hard work, and the support of a good team. It was a defining moment in my career, and I am grateful for the opportunity to have been a part of such open-minded supervision.”

Women in Construction

📋Lindsey Thompson📋

Lindsey has been a Project Coordinator with ISC in the Baton Rouge area for 2 years after also being an intern while completing her education at LSU.

“Around 2016, my family renovated a house, and I was always there after school and found it super interesting. I was a senior in high school at the time, so it was a perfect time for me to figure out what I wanted to do in life. Ryan Berryhill, who’s over the interns, has hands down been the biggest mentor for me. He’s always made sure we knew he was there for us, was available to answer any questions we had, and just supported us in our journey. Even after I became a coordinator, he was intentional about calling and checking in to see how I was doing. I really enjoy the challenge of my role. As a coordinator, we’re constantly balancing the numbers between the client and ISC; it’s never boring and being the only woman out there keeps it interesting, for sure. It’s very rewarding, seeing all the things we do on the back side get built in front of you. As long as you work hard and give 100%, anyone can move up. There’s lots of opportunities.”

Women in Construction

🛠Amber Sumlin🛠

Amber is another lady who we’re lucky to have on our team in Alabama. We asked her to share a little bit of her experience and here’s what she said:

“After 17 years on the Biomedical Engineering side of construction, I am excited to focus my attention on the E&I side of the construction industry. The best part of my job is seeing others succeed and feeling accomplished. Knowing that a diverse team has successfully accomplished a large project is extremely gratifying. One of the major advantages of working in construction is that anyone who puts in the effort can grow and learn. Be prepared to learn something new every day and learn to adapt to change quickly.”
