I posted about my opinion on weight loss drugs on my personal page earlier this week and got great response.
I feel certain many of my followers here need to read it too! It's long but worth the read!
So so sooooo many have asked my opinion on specific weight loss methods lately.
GLP-1, drops, pills, etc.
I even had a discussion about it on a live with my clients this week. They saw me legit sweating as I tried to give my thoughts without offending anyone.
So here is my best attempt at trying not to offend.
Stick with me because in true Dietitian Constance fashion, it’s long.
I have lots of (personal and professional) opinions and they go far deeper than I will share here, but my intention is to share what I know to be true as a professional and what I see and have seen while working with literally thousands of women to lose weight over the past 10 years.
There are risks.
For some, these are life altering risks.
For others, they will not be affected.
Now, there are risks associated with everything. Dyes in our food, additives, surgeries, medications, you name it.
But for me personally, I want to do my best to reduce my risks for a long and healthy life. And I’d assume the same of you.
But even still, for some people, these risks are worth it.
As I have stated on my business page before, I have ENCOURAGED a handful (out of hundreds) of current clients to get on GLP-1s after personal conversations with them. Because for them the benefits drastically outweigh the risks (we are talking obesity coupled with major health issues associated).
But for many out there trying to get it just to lose 20-30 pounds with minimal other health factors, is the risk worth it? That’s for each person to decide.
But here is the real message I want you to hear—
REGARDLESS of whether you choose to take the risk or not, the weight will come back UNLESS you learn how to improve your relationship with food.
Period.
Food is our culture. It will always be around- break rooms, bbqs, celebrations...
No magic weight loss method will also remove delicious food from your surroundings forever.
The research shows that once the medications are stopped the weight comes back IF proper lifestyle changes are not made.
So until we actually do the work on our brain and our daily habits to know how to confidently face food—
-Knowing when to say yes and when (and how) to say no,
-Understanding portion control,
-Practicing mindful eating,
-Tackling the reasons we feel like food controls us,
-Learning food makeup and why it matters to our body and satiety,
-Removing specific food shaming and body shaming labels,
-Learning to love the body we are in and wanting to help make it healthier- not just skinnier,..
we are going to be forever putting a bandaid on the problem.
Think about it.
If we want bigger muscles, we wouldn’t just chug protein shakes and hope for the best- we’d lift weights regularly.
If we experienced trauma we wouldn’t just pop a pill and hope it solved all the things we endured- we’d seek a therapist to work through the pain.
If we had a knee surgery we wouldn’t just cross our fingers and hope our body returned to normal after- we’d rehab it.
If we get married we don’t just live with a person and hope it works out- we do the work to keep the love and trust alive.
—Long lasting results in any area of our life takes consistent effort.—
It is the same for weight loss after a lifetime of struggling with our weight and food.
We HAVE to be willing to face and understand how our body gains and loses, own how our decisions play a part in that, and deal with the emotions associated for the weight loss to stick.
If you don’t, it will just become another memory of when you lost the weight just to regain it again.
And what’s magical is that for many people, this is ALL the effort that is really needed to see that 20-30lb weight loss. No shots required!
So my thought for the general public- not those with extreme health needs (sit down keyboard warriors) why not skip the middle man (and save lots of dollars) and do the work on YOU now?
In my program we talk a lot about health being like a layered cake.
Establishing one habit at a time, getting it reallll pretty and strong, and then adding the next layer. This is how a cake becomes tall and decadent.
If we tossed it all on at once, it’d be a mess.
If we didn’t wait for a layer to cool before we iced it, it would all melt off and need to be fixed.
If we bought the cake from the store and pretended like we baked it, we wouldn’t have the same understanding of the foundations needed to create it or feel the ownership that we would have if we baked it on our own.
So.
Get the trainer.
Get the dietitian.
Get the cookbook.
Get the fancy water bottle.
Get the app.
Get the devotional.
Get the new tennis shoes or workout clothes.
Get the watch.
Get the therapist. (read this one again)
Get whatever you need to start your layered cake journey to make your weight loss a lasting one.
So that you are never looking for ways to lose weight again.
Put in the consistent effort for the long haul and change your life, habits and health forever. 💗

We aren’t ready over here! But ready or not… here we come!
Let’s talk about packing those lunch boxes this year!
Here are some of my favorite lunch box hacks!
1. Get good containers.
Over my lunch box years, I have decided that the lunch box containers matter. Invest in some good containers that wash well and will help keep your kiddo’s sandwich cool or casserole warm during the day, while also washing and fastening easily!
Also make sure you have enough so that you aren’t stressing over the dishes at 7am as you are supposed to be headed out the door!
2. Go with the easy foods.
Don’t get too caught up in the cute lunch box ideas that look like they take forever. I have noticed that my kids eat more of the foods that are easiest to eat while being semi-distracted (chatting with friends).
.Cut up/already peeled fruit.Bite size crackers or pretzels.Yogurt or applesauce pouches.Rolled up deli meat.Cheese stick.Nuts.Pickles.Baked Chips.Cut up veggies with some dip. Olives.Sandwiches cut in half or fourths
It doesn’t have to look Pinterest fabulous to please our kiddos!
3. Keep it balanced.
Make sure that you are providing foods that your kiddos like that offer a balance of protein, fat and carb to keep them full throughout the afternoon + help their brains stay alert!
Some standard Shelby kid lunch box pairings include:
.String cheese + shredded chicken + applesauce.Sliced deli meat + black olives or pickles + pretzels.Hummus + pita chips + grapes.Edamame + crackers + strawberries.Yogurt pouch + boiled egg + blueberries.English muffin, shredded cheese, pepperonis (DIY pizza kit).Pancakes/Waffles + a yogurt
and yesssss.Peanut butter and jelly sandwich with baked chips and a fruit!
Ps: My 8 year old lovessss to get leftovers in her thermos. Think mac and cheese (with shredded chicken mixed in), chicken spaghetti, soup/chili, Mexican beef casserole, poppyseed chicken over rice… if I can squeeze it in and keep it warm it is a WIN!
4. Make it fun.
If what goes in the lunch box is a battle with your kiddo, make sure there is something in there that they are excited about!
Whether it is a character print on the front, a piece of their favorite candy, or a special note from you! Have them looking forward to opening that lunch box daily!
And don't forget to ask them what they would like to see in the lunch box! Most of the time our kids just want a say! I always try to give my girls at least one special treat that they have requested!

Perfect Fit Foundation
As a registered dietitian nutritionist, healthy food has always been a huge part of my life. However, after I got a unique job where the last thing I had time to do everyday was think about food, I realized the struggle that many others must face. Throw in marriage, motherhood and the inability to think in silence for 5 seconds and I found full on chaos when trying to prep, plan and eat the most top-notch foods that I so easily did before. When there is no time to think about your food, it can seem impossible to make the right decisions. Our friends lose weight one way, our family loses weight another, so which way are we supposed to go to see the lasting results that we so desperately want?
Let’s face it people, you cannot fit a square peg into a round hole no matter how many ways you try. You love bread, but you are cutting carbs. To you, dessert is like heaven neatly placed in a pastry package, yet you decided to give up all sugar. Sure, maybe you see some results with these strategies, but they will only amount to failure in the long run because who can willingly give up the things that they love the most F.O.R.E.V.E.R.?? I know I sure can’t. And then those pesky pounds creep right back!
This is the foundation on which Perfect Fit Nutrition was designed. My goal is to help you learn a proven and lasting eating pattern that consists of balance between life and food. Good food.
