It is weird that you can react to some foods because of your airborne pollen allergy. This happens when your immune systems slightly gets confused. 😵💫
This pollen is similar to some of the exact proteins in foods. This is called cross reactivity.
As a result this triggers an immune response, which results in oral itch and tingling.
Today is March 1st, National Peanut Lover's day!
We can imagine that for those of us that have peanut allergies, it can be hard to resonate with the excitement for National Peanut Lover's Day.
Here at AllergenIQ, we would use this opportunity to increase our IQ on one of the most common questions that we get.
Question: Why is it that our peanut allergic child can eat from a certain restaurant that uses peanut oil, when they have severe peanut allergies?
Answer: The answer is that some of these oils are highly refined. Full Refining of oils usually results in an almost complete removal of the peanut protein, which is the portion that is responsible for reactions. So, for most peanut allergic individuals these types of highly refined peanut oils are tolerated.

Cross-contact occurs when a food allergen comes in contact with a food or an item not intended to contain that allergen. Small amounts of an allergen can cause allergic reactions.
Hay fever, or seasonal allergies, is very common and can be uncomfortable. While it’s not always easy to tell the difference between a cold, covid, or allergies..it’s more likely to be allergies if there’s no fever, if eyes are itchy if there’s lots of sneezing… and if it lasts longer than a few days and returns every year around the same time.
Here are some ways to avoid symptoms that come along with seasonal allergies.
✔️ Keep windows and doors shut inyour home or the car.
✔️ To avoid pollen, check the pollen count. Pollen levels are highest in the morning.
Make sure your kids take showers regularly and wash their hair. Always make them change clothes after playing outdoors.
If you continue to have concerns about your child’s seasonal allergies, ask your board-certified allergist about allergy treatment.
