William will roll his sleeves up and work, he part of and volunteers for numerous organizations in Sierra VIsta. He will work for all of SV! Why?
Where the rubber meets the road! Why I’m running for office:
While serving in the army for over 20 years, there was never a place that seemed like home -- until I moved to Sierra Vista in 2001. I found a wonderful quality of life afforded to young families like mine. Because it felt like home, I sensed the need to give back to my new community what I had learned during my time of service. I got in
volved in community activities, starting with coaching youth sports and involving myself in my children’s school experience. After my children had grown, I started volunteering with such organizations as the Cochise Education Foundation, Habitat for Humanity, and the Sierra Vista West Rotary club, among others. Because volunteering allows me to listen and see what Sierra Vistans care about: what they love, what they would like to see improved, and what community means to them. An important point for me is to be more than just a name on a Board list -- to be someone who rolls up their sleeves, gets to work, and interacts with neighbors. One of the themes which consistently comes up in conversations is the frustration that there are not enough economic and social prospects for young people to remain in our home town. Two of my children were educated in Sierra Vista, which laid a great foundation for their future. While it’s natural for young adults to leave home and explore the world, I’d like to work on attracting young people from other parts of the state and country to come here when they choose to explore the world. We have some wonderful opportunities for retirees in our community, but we lack those same opportunities for the generations which follow. Sierra Vista needs a vision for our young people – the future of the city – to remain in the community to work and help to keep it thriving. In the new economy, civilian jobs in technical fields are a must for attracting young professionals and building wealth. I’d like to see a wave of young professionals moving in to replace our aging workforce upon retirement. I am running for Sierra Vista City Council because I have listened to my neighbors through years of volunteering, organizing, leading and working alongside them. We agree we want our community to be stable, healthy and thriving at a level which serves current Sierra Vistans and provides incentives for making it a permanent home for generations to come. That is why I am running for City Council. I hear you, Sierra Vista.
