We’re THRILLED to have .herrera25 this fall for soo many reasons! Fatima was selected as a fellow with LatinxEd! We’re excited to continue working with the Herrera sisters and to keep advancing college access!! Please help us congratulate Fatima on this huge accomplishment!! 🥳
See Ethan at the first CHANCE in 2017 where he was leading the Fiesta Latina! How do you think he did? 🥳
We’ve had many volunteers throughout the years but there’s one that has been around since CHANCE started. By choice or not (gracias parents 😆), Ethan has completed all the tasks he was assigned to the best of his ability. From helping with the lines, to playing soccer, to breaking the dance 🪩 floor; he has always tried his best!
Today is Ethan’s 12th birthday!! We’ve seen him grow up and now he is almost a teenager!!! We couldn’t do it without him!! Please join us in wishing him un feliz cumpleaños!! 🥳
It was so special to for the first time have all past campers from 2018 and 2019 come back this year and be assigned to be our nurse mentors and volunteers for CHANCE!
At that point these three campers didn’t know each other and now they are in their last year of nursing school AND came back to help out because CHANCE left a huge impact on them. It is remarkable to see how CHANCE is creating pathways, especially in healthcare where bilingual nurses are severely underrepresented. Thanks for paying it forward. We have no doubt you will be the best nurses!
We know our 2023 campers and future nurses will now carry this moment with them until it’s their turn. 💙💛💙💛
Many thanks, muchas gracias Emily, Karina y Fernando 🫶🏽 here are some before and now pictures!

Teachers play a tremendous role in all our lives and we’re specially proud of for pursing a pathway in education!!
Samantha is part of the very first CHANCE cohort in 2017 and has worked incredibly hard to become a teacher. Sami has been heavily involved on campus including being a CHANCE mentor. Sami, we’re proud of you and all you’ve accomplished. Congratulations!! 🎉🎈🎊
Please give it up for this CHANCE Latina in STEM 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 🧪🧬
came to CHANCE in 2018 (see last picture) and really enjoyed the science 🧪 class that was offered. She then committed to UNCG and will now be graduating in the next days!! 🥳 One of the highlights of coming to the University of North Carolina at Greensboro has been joining Dr. Reddicks research group. Marve mentions “UNCG has given me the opportunity of joining a research lab as an undergraduate student in the Chemistry and Biochemistry Department. This has allowed me to find a sense of community and acceptance. Being a representation to the Latinx community in STEM has allowed me to be a role model that I didn’t have growing up as well as allowed me to encourage other Latinx groups to get involved with research and the STEM field.”
We’re so proud of the person and scientist you have become, Marve!! Can’t wait to see where you will go. Keep representing! ⭐️
HUGE Congratulations to CHANCE Camper from 2018 .__ for being awarded a Spartan Leadership Award at the Spartans Excellence Awards Ceremony last night! Brenda has shined in her many roles within the student organizations. She has stepped up without having a leadership title and brought events to campus with .uncg that have benefitted dozens of Latine students. Brenda has also served as a CHANCE mentor twice and is ready to help all the time. Thanks for everything Brenda and congratulations on graduating!!
Peak pictures of Brenda and Diana during CHANCE 2018! 🤩
The CHANCE Cinco traveled to the west coast to share all about our comunidad and grassroots beginning at the College Board Prepárate conference! We really enjoyed connecting with other educators who are interested in creating a CHANCE at their university.
CHANCE is a program that was 100% volunteer-run and came to life because we all believed it was crucial to educate Latines for the future of America. Thanks to the staff and faculty who dreamed of this and who have donated their time and expertise. To the students who took off a week of work to volunteer and be a mentor, MIL GRACIAS. We all have co-created a CHANCE that has impacted more than 500 students across North Carolina over the past 7 years. Juntos seguiremos abriendo nuestro camino hacia la educación!
Please join us in celebrating one of our PHENOMENAL CHANCE Campers from 2018!! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Since her freshman year, Diana Moreno has been a UNC Greensboro (UNCG) commencement marshall, but this year, she’ll walk across the stage for her own graduation. It’s a milestone she doesn’t take lightly as she considers how far she’s come, thanks to the encouragement of key faculty members at UNCG. But for this confident, high-achieving Spartan, the journey is far from over. Diana will be graduating with a degree in nursing and plans to apply to medical school to become a doctor. Diana you will be the first CHANCE doctor and we’re excited to keep being your cheerleader! “Mija, tu puedes” -Margarita Kerkado
