Don is a 30-year U.S Coast Guard veteran who represents the best of us and has been committed to our Downtown since 1991. Community members organized in support of a "Downtown Don Anchor Award '' and it was my pleasure to present him with a certificate of recognition marking the inaugural event. Thank you for all you've done for Downtown, Don. I look forward to recognizing your legacy annually thanks to this amazing award.

I was so happy to be present at the unveiling of 33 zero-emission, electric cargo tractors and their chargers at the Port of Long Beach yesterday. The tractors operate at the same level of work as diesel tractors and will be driven by Union members. This is one major step forward in reaching our climate goals and I can't wait to see what the Port and our City will do next.

The fight to legalize street vendors continues. With Council action at last nights meeting, we are one step closer to making sure street vendors get the support they need.
I led on several motions that I believe brings us closer to meeting the spirit of abiding to state law, which is to create pathways, not barriers for street vendors. I look forward to our continued work on this.

Like most downtowns across the country, historically we’ve had some challenges. Although we’ve come a long way on many issues, we still have much more work to do to make the downtown core safer for both residents and visitors.
That is why on October 24th the Mayor, along with my City Council colleagues, directed the City Manager to develop an enhanced and renewed focus on Downtown Long Beach.
Today, city officials delivered on this plan announcing our Roadmap to Downtown Recovery: a three-phase plan, starting with the short term, to ensure that our downtown reflects the best of Long Beach.
You can read the full plan at the link in my bio.

This week, I rode the Metro from Downtown Long Beach to the Metro Headquarters at the Union Station to attend a meet and confer with the Deputy CEO. While there, I shared with her the public safety, cleanliness, and functionality concerns residents have voiced. I also spoke at length about the end of the line policy and its impact on the district. Public transportation is an asset and it will take all levels of government working together to address the serious challenges the Metro faces when it comes to perception of safety.
