Midwife Meagan K. LM, CPM Welcome to Wild Rose Midwifery. Growing mamas. Growing babies. Growing families. Growing community 🤎
Today I got to meet up with Midwife Meagan K. LM, CPM, to have a late celebratory, and congratulatory lunch for her graduating from school and achieving her midwifery license.
She hit the ground running with her business and she’s doing absolutely amazing. I had the privilege of working with her and her partners twice during the month of April. I can’t wait to work with her and her team in the future!
Building bonds and friendships within the birthing community is so very important!
What is your favorite mobile breast pump?
So roughly about a week ago and a half ago, I helped support a mom through her labor and delivery that was very different. Something I have never experienced in eight years.
Mom was right on target and she knew when her baby was gonna come into this world!!
She absolutely rocked her labor and delivery. She was cool as a cucumber and listen to her body. She let go and embraced everything this labor had to offer. Welcome to the world baby R!!
I love supporting any mom anywhere, but I do love a homebirth . ❤️

In our last post, we spoke about skin to skin in the early newborn days. Let’s talk about something similar. Has anyone ever told you that you “pick your baby up too much” or “spoil them” by how much you hold them and they will grow to expect that? Good thing is you are setting them up for a secure attachment! Our newborns were designed to be in close contact with their caretakers. Here are some reasons how you are in fact, not spoiling your baby, and actually fueling their growth and development in profound ways:
1.) Holding your baby is a powerful catalyst for emotional development. Each embrace lays the foundation for a secure attachment, fostering trust and confidence that will shape their relationships for life. Your baby will view you as their emotional safe space.
2.) Those sweet cuddles are like brain fuel for your baby. The sensory input from being held stimulates neural pathways, promoting cognitive development and lays the groundwork for a curious, eager learner.
3.) In your arms, your baby finds the perfect environment to thrive physically. Your touch helps regulate their body temperature, supports their digestion, and even promotes better sleep, all of which are essential for healthy growth and development.
4.) Holding your baby close creates endless opportunities for connection and interaction. Through eye contact, gentle touches, and soothing words, you're teaching them the language of love and empathy, nurturing their social skills from the very start. This will help as they begin to socialize with others.
5.) Each time you hold your baby and respond to their needs, you're building a strong foundation of resilience and self-assurance. Knowing they're loved, cared for, and supported by you gives them the courage to explore the world with strong confidence.
6.) Holding your baby goes beyond physical closeness; it's about creating a bond that withstands the test of time. Through your arms, they learn that they are cherished, valued, and always safe—a priceless gift that shapes their sense of self and their relationships throughout life.

Fun facts
The “Balia” was the "other mother" who breast-fed a newborn, on hire. In past centuries in Sicily, these wet nurses were sought by families who had suffered the death of young mothers during childbirth, the mother was unable to breastfeed because she suffered from a certain illness, or because her breasts simply had not produced milk. Breastfeeding a baby was of enormous importance for a healthy and caring upbringing of a child.
Generally the woman who was chosen as a wet nurse had the right to three complete meals a day (because it was important for her to stay healthy), clean linen and a daily wage of one lira.
If you are wanting an alternative to a hospital birth, or birth center. Here is an amazing group for your home birthing needs.
