Let's sail Tahiti this September/October !!

Get the Tahiti brief here:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1DkovhtER1GRrjVSbOQLDN7jbA62coQKb/view?usp=drivesdk

The Society Islands of Tahiti, feature jagged mountains, white sand beaches, tropical forests, and scents of gardenia, making this an exotic dreamland. With it’s traditions of tattoo, dance, and mystical black pearls, Tahiti has a rich cultural heritage that is alive and well.

Most of the islands here are surrounded by a ring of reefs, turquoise lagoons, and small islets called motus. One of the most striking things about sailing in this region is the color of the water. From shallow turquoise bays that lie inside of the reefs, to the deep purple-blue waters of the open ocean, with depths measured in miles, not feet, Tahiti is truly a sailor’s paradise.

We will do short sails in the lagoons, stopping along the way to snorkel and see the great diversity of corals, fishes, sharks, and rays. We will also island hop, sailing across blue ocean waters. In the evenings, we can visit fine restaurants and famous Polynesian tiki bars.

We will be sailing on 45'+ premium catamarans for optimal comfort and performance while on our journey.

Your personalized itinerary can include hands-on sailing, sunning, swimming, exploration, nature, history, local cuisine, yoga, dancing, and as much relaxation, adventure or wildness as you desire.

Come sail away with us !!

Koala and I are about to wrap up our season in the USVI. We really have gotten to know these Virgin Islands .. it’s waters .. it’s reefs .. it’s culture .. and old and new friends. People here are tight .. many come for a short time .. and stay forever.

We had wonderful guests on the 40’ catamaran Ciao Bella. We explored and discovered secret beaches and snorkel spots .. we saw amazing sunsets and full moons on the water .. we went to floating parties and a floating taco bar .. and we went to Carnival. We sailed the seas and then off into the sunset. Tahiti is next ..)

‘The Nature Island’ Dominica lies between Guadeloupe and Martinique in the Caribbean windward chain of islands. Go now, as Dominica is still native and unspoiled by modern development. With a river for every day of the year, she has waterfalls, hot springs, natural pools, wild places, and many amazing gardeners with pride in their homes and their plantings.

Koala and I had so much fun cruising with the Boulders and the Floridas, in the BVI, on the Lagoon 50 ‘Skye’.

Hearts were thumping as we sailed, snorkeled, SUPd, and ate and drank to our heart’s delight. We sailed the Lagoon to over 10 knots, swam in pristine bays, visited famous beach bars, and ate fresh seafood and lobster.

Koala was the most amazing hostess, baking, pulling lines, and adding special touches everywhere.

Tahiti is next.. C’mon.

❤️

Koala was ecstatic when we arrived in Goreme town in Cappadocia .. with its ancient cave dwellings .. and rock hoodoos and spires. We listened to the Ben Bohmer Cercle video (https://youtu.be/RvRhUHTV_8k?si=Kx--v2uzjiotm3Up) .. and visited the Love Valley and other natural sights.

Our next day started before dawn .. when we went to ride in a hot air balloon .. above the otherworldly landscape. Then we hiked the Rose and Red Valleys .. where we explored cliff dwellings .. and stopped at little houses and cafes .. to drink fruit juices and eat local nuts, grapes, and tomatoes.

Two perfect days of wonder and adventure in Cappadocia.

The Lagoon 50 out of Lefkada, in the Greek Ionian Sea, was super comfortable - with room for all on the flying bridge, a swim platform, AC, tons of fridges for the wine, and all en-suite baths. We raised and trimmed sail with massive electric winches, and sailed on fresh breezes.

Our crew completed our first Mediterranean mooring with the anchor, in tight quarters, at the taverna on Ithaca, in front of many local Captains, and with ‘zero’ remaining chain ‘whew’.

The local Captains took me in like a brother, and all of us into the community. We shared mezze, local wine, and Ouzo. In Greece the food and the people are the best.

Fair winds to S/V Jupiter .. Yamas !

Photos from mosaicTrips's post 06/10/2023

Greece has won our hearts - from the blustery cliffs of Santorini, to the thumping alleys of Mykonos, and the calm waters of the Ionian, all gray yet washed in color.

Koala and I joined friends in Athens, the Aegean Sea, and then managed a 50’ catamaran sailing on the Ionian Sea, with it’s fair winds for short island hops.

In the Ionian, we were awestruck by the simple beauty of the ancient cliffs, sandy beaches, and clear blue waters. We found comfort in the many tavernas - the food, the wine, and choosing our own fish to be prepared each night.

, we’ve been looking to expand our horizons and offers, Greece !! Let’s go !!

Let's sail Croatia this September/October !!

Get Croatia brief here:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/12ce4KDzykthFzFqI1v9SCRLinsYDVwCo/view?usp=sharing

The main islands off the Dalmation coast of Croatia are of varied character – traditional, sporty, or lux. Here you can explore attractive city centers and medieval fortresses, olive groves and vineyards. We can do short or longer sails to scenic bays for swimming and sunning in clear waters. We can moor up in traditional villages with a central European flavor and dine on grilled meats, Italian-style pizza and seafood, or visit very posh towns with upscale restaurants and trendy beach bars and clubs. Croatia has more pebbly beaches, is a little more spendy, and slightly cooler than Greece to the south.

We will be sailing on 40'+ premium catamarans for optimal comfort and performance while on our journey.

Your personalized itinerary can include hands-on sailing, sunning, swimming, exploration, nature, history, local cuisine, yoga, dancing, and as much relaxation, adventure or wildness as you desire.

Koala and I are so fortunate to have met so many nice people as our guests on Ciao Bella. We hosted large extended families, as well as couples and friends. Being private and all-inclusive, Ciao Bella passengers are the best !! Koala and I are back in Colorado now planning our next sailing adventures in Greece, Croatia, Sardinia, and the South Pacific. Who wants to go sailing ?

04/01/2023

Koala and I had a fantastic run from St Thomas to St Croix today. After a bumpy head-on swell coming out, the beam-on wind and swell rolled us all the way to Frederiksted. We had everything stowed, were tethered on deck, and mostly sat down and rode out those 6-8 foot seas ..

Photos from mosaicTrips's post 22/11/2022

Koala and I have been very fortunate to host wonderful guests on Ciao Bella. I enjoy sharing knowledge about the Virgin Islands, getting them to the best spots for snorkeling and water play, and making sure that they are safe. Our guests seem to like the chill vibe, the home cooked food, and all the gear and water toys. Koala is the hostess with the most-est, and her banana bread is to die for. Just show up with your sunglasses, sunscreen, and your bathing suit… The rest is included !!

Koala and I hosted our first guests on Ciao Bella and what a fun adventurous group !! We are so happy to help make your vacation that much more special .. Ciao Bella !!

Koala and I are returning to the Virgin Islands this winter !! We are currently helping to deliver the 40’ catamaran Ciao Bella from St Lucia, and will manage her for day charters with sailing, snorkeling, great food and drinks in November and December. Check out ciaobellacharters.com for bookings.

Koala and I ended our first European tour together In Paris. We drank champagne while cruising at 300 km/hr on the TGV. We visited Le Tour Effiel .. the Paris Plages (beach vibe on the Seine) .. Musee’National Picasso .. Le Moulin Rouge .. and hung out on our local street on Monmartre ..)

Photos from mosaicTrips's post 12/08/2022

We extended our time in Europe for one week to visit friends in Provence. Camy and John have a lovely home where the early morning pastels and the thoughtful provencial furnishings made this one of the most romantic places we have ever stayed. We had lunches on the patio, some nice dinners out, a trip to the market, and Rose’ All Day ..)

We are super grateful for our hosts in Berlin, Alex and Daniel M. Krause, who made us feel at home, toured us around by bicycle, and joined us in our late night escapades.

Koala Young’s parents met in Berlin in 1948, while her Dad was flying in the Berlin Airlift. We rode in her Dad’s tracks on the runway at Tempelhof (now an open space), found an amazing costume store, and brushed up on our Cold War history. The Wall went up in 1961 and came down in 1989.

Berlin is very diverse and cosmopolitan, with a bit of a grunge feel and graffiti all around, many languages, and proper nightlife.

Photos from mosaicTrips's post 03/08/2022

Koala and I had planned to travel by train, and we did so to Prague, and then to Berlin. I first went to Prague in 1992 just three years after the Wall came down. Such a beautiful city in the crossroads of Europe, where you can see medieval architecture next to baroque. We brushed up on our Mucha at the art nouveau Municipal House, ascended the tower of the City Hall, a little Techno clubbing, and a climb to the Prague Castle, which I like to associate with the novel of the same name by Franz Kafka.

Photos from mosaicTrips's post 03/08/2022

Koala and I flew to Vienna to get on the rail lines going north. We stayed at Wombats hostel, toured the city, viewed the Klimt at Belvedere, and listened to Mozart at Schonbrunn. Next we commuted to Bratislava via a fast catamaran on the Danube and happened upon the Pride parade.

Photos from mosaicTrips's post 31/07/2022

Koala and I continued our travels in Croatia with Heather and Grady. On the island of Korchula we floated in the pool and tasted local wine.

In Dubrovnik we walked the ancient alleys and marveled at the massive city walls. These defenses and the diplomacy of this great republic allowed for 450 years of peace.

We had lunch in Montenegro and dinner in Bosnia before showing up for the nightlife of Dubrovnik.

The Lagoon 450 out of Solta handled well on reaches .. up to 10 knots on fresh/strong breezes .. our crew completed our first ever Mediterranean mooring.. the layout included a long seat at the helm .. lot’s of chill pads .. dual fridges .. walk around berths .. and 3 poles for dancing .. at the cove Uvala Stiniva on Vis .. we entertained 30 total on her broad decks .. fair winds to S/V Madagascar ..)

25/07/2022

Koala and I just spent a couple of weeks in Croatia, touring and sailing with friends, and under the guidance of a long time captain in this region, Andrew Vik.

Croatia has won our hearts with it’s dry Mediterranean climate, numerous islands with unspoiled bays, and historical towns full of local treasures and great nightlife.

, we’ve been looking to expand our horizons and offers, after two seasons sailing mostly in the Virgin Islands due to recent travel restrictions. Croatia !! Let’s go !!

16/05/2022

Koala and I duo’d in the British Virgin Islands on Dalika, a sleek German Hanse 445 sloop-rigged monohaul. Koala’s first time to the BVI, and our first bareboat honeymoon sail together.

First we sailed upwind to Virgin Gorda with stops at Norman and Cooper on the way. On VG, we visited the Baths, Spanish Town and Coco Maya restaurant (recommended), and the new Bitter End 2.

I felt much grief, as did many sailors, when the Bitter End and much of the BVI, was destroyed by Irma in 2017. To see her back just filled my heart with joy.
