Training with Bandit and his family has been a great experience for everyone. Bandit started with our group puppy class and then moved on to private in-home lessons. We covered a lot, and he’s only 7 months old!

🗣 An animals’ diet can have anti-inflammatory and pro-inflammatory effects on their body, either due to the nutritional components themselves or the effects those components have on the individuals’ microbiome.

Nutrition and diet can change the levels of inflammatory mediators (or biological chemicals) in the body depending on the type, presentation, and amounts of nutritional components within a diet.

These dietary effects can be direct, due to the components of the diet, or indirect via the microbiome. This area of research is fascinating. Low-grade chronic inflammation can have negative effects on many disease states as there is a connection between inflammatory state, nutrition, stress, disease, and behavior.

Pain is part of life sometimes. A small injury or illness can cause days of discomfort. As our dogs get older though, they can suffer joint pain that's often ignored because we just assume they are getting old. If you think your dog might be struggling, it's worth a closer look. Ask yourself if you recognise any of these signs. If you need any help with understanding and caring for yyour older dog, drop us a line in the comments.

Understanding a dog's behaviour before training is crucial for several reasons. It helps identify the root cause of issues; for instance, a dog chewing might be teething or stressed rather than naughty.

This approach builds trust, as dogs feel understood, leading to a stronger bond and better dog welfare.

Misinterpreting behaviour can lead to harmful training methods, whereas understanding promotes the dog's welfare and happiness. Training that accounts for a dog's needs and emotions leads to long-term success, not just immediate obedience.

Overall, it's about ensuring the training is humane, effective, and fosters a positive relationship.

Dogs need love and dogs need space. It's crucially important that we can read their language.

How to Tell If Your Dog Has Joint Pain: Signs to Look Out For Joint pain is a common problem for dogs, especially as they age. It can make it difficult for them to move around and enjoy their daily activities. Unfortunately, dogs can't tell us when they're in pain, so it's up to us as their people to look out for signs that something might be wrong. In this bl...

Our Story

who we are…

OC Paws is a dog training company founded on the principles of classical conditioning, operant conditioning, with our focus on positive reinforcement. Our trainers understand animal behavior. We can tell you WHY your dog is doing what they doing and HOW we can help change the behavior.

We will teach YOU how to be your dog’s trainer.

Our trainers have worked in the animal industry at some of the most respected animal attraction parks in the world. We’ve trained marine mammals such as dolphins, sea lions and whales. We have also worked with exotic animals such as birds and monkeys. No animal has been too big or small for our trainers at OC Paws, especially our favorite: DOGS!

how we do it…

OC Paws will customize an individual training program for your pet. We start with an in-home consultation. This will give us the opportunity to evaluate your dog and create a training program that will set your dog up for success. We know that every dog is different and learns at their own pace. We want you and your dog to succeed. A well-trained pet is a happy pet.

We also will teach you and your family members how to train your dog. YOU are the most important trainer! If you can understand the basic animal behavior techniques we show you, you will be able to maintain your dog’s good behavior for years to come. And, if you have questions along the way, no problem! We offer a lifetime of training advice with any training package.
