🎂

Not every baby needs 15 minutes per side. Some babies take a full feeding in only a few minutes minutes, and from just one breast per feeding. Other babies may feed for a few minutes off each side. Older, more distractible babies are efficient eaters with more important things to do than state at your chest. They may graze at the b**b a few minutes at a time or want to go back and forth from side to side.

In general, you know baby is getting enough breast milk when you have a pain free latch where the ni**le goes in and out of baby’s mouth the same shape. You can hear baby swallow and don’t need to keep them awake at the breast for them to continue feeding. Baby should be making lots of heavy wet diapers and pooping daily or every other day. They also gain weight to their own curve and are a similar size of your unique family genetics.

If your baby typically latches for you, and feeds well, and refuses to latch, they most likely are done. Follow your baby’s lead and get to know their feeding habits. Trust your baby and trust your body. If you’re concerned about how your baby is feeding, schedule and appointment with a breastfeeding expert: an IBCLC lactation consultant.

Love running into “my” little babies 💙

I think the hardest part of my job is when mom has the hang of their new baby & we slowly move on to a different type of relationship. We say hello in passing and I like the family photos you post on social media...but I never forget the raw and special times we spent together through your pregnancy & birth. You all hold such a special place in my heart ♥️ Moments like this make me so proud.

“I am BLOWN AWAY by the difference a lip and tongue tie revision made on my little one!! She actually has a bottom lip now 🤪 ⁣

This is my first baby and thought it was normal for my baby to have a really hard time latching, and then fall asleep after just a couple minutes. The pediatrician told me “if she’s attempting to nurse, then she doesn’t have a tongue tie.” She didn’t even look in her mouth to check 😳 But my breasts were constantly engorged and in pain and I got no relief when she nursed because she was getting almost nothing out so I was forced to pump every couple hours... ⁣

After some research, she had every sign of a lip or tongue tie (blanched ni**les, lipstick ni**le, pain while nursing, receding chin, sucking in bottom lip, falling off the ni**le constantly and losing motivation). So I scheduled an appointment with an IBCLC, and sure enough she had a severe tongue and lip tie... I nursed her before the procedure and she only got half an ounce in 10 minutes, then nursed her again after the procedure and she got 2.5 ounces in only FIVE minutes!! I was so proud of her. ⁣

I’m so glad I listened to my mommy instincts, because now she is nursing like a pro and finally putting on weight!”💕⁣

I met the sweetest woman the other day and when she told me the OB she used to work for scheduled their prenatal visits for 5-7.5 minutes, I was shocked. I mean - it can take half of the visit just to find and listen to baby's heartbeat.

Now - I know not everyone needs the extra attention or maybe you don't want it - but this is the gap in the bridge and the exact moment you lose control of your pregnancy and birth. There is no time for valid questions or time for education that you have the right to. You are forced to surrender the idea of birth preferences and faced with an outcome that you may not be prepared for.

THAT is what needs to sink in...

We do things a little different at Lakeview Women’s Health❤️

Let’s redo the math a little bit…
⏱ Our initial visit is scheduled for 1 hour. With a minimum of 12 prenatals, always scheduled for at least 30 minutes, that’s an additional 6 hours of care.
📲 In addition to your prenatals, you’re given a direct contact for your midwife to address questions or concerns before your delivery 24/7!
🤰🏼 A grand total of at least 7 hours together before the birth of your baby. And let’s not forget all the baby snuggles that come postpartum 😍

Our bodies are beautiful 😍

“When pregnant, the cells of the baby migrate into the mothers bloodstream and then circle back into the baby, it’s called “fetal-maternal microchimerism”.

For 41 weeks, the cells circulate and merge backwards and forwards, and after the baby is born, many of these cells stay in the mother’s body, leaving a permanent imprint in the mothers tissues, bones, brain, and skin, and often stay there for decades. Every single child a mother has afterwards will leave a similar imprint on her body, too.

Even if a pregnancy doesn't go to full term or if you have an abortion, these cells still migrate into your bloodstream.

Research has shown that if a mother's heart is injured, fetal cells will rush to the site of the injury and change into different types of cells that specialize in mending the heart.

The baby helps repair the mother, while the mother builds the baby.

How cool is that?

This is often why certain illnesses vanish while pregnant.

It’s incredible how mothers bodies protect the baby at all costs, and the baby protects & rebuilds the mother back - so that the baby can develop safely and survive.

Think about crazy cravings for a moment. What was the mother deficient in that the baby made them crave?

Studies have also shown cells from a fetus in a mothers brain 18 years after she gave birth. How amazing is that?”

If you’re a mom you know how you can intuitively feel your child even when they are not there….Well, now there is scientific proof that moms carry them for years and years even after they have given birth to them.

I find this to be so very beautiful.

There are so many indicators of oral ties but here is one often over looked!
Love this article!

From : Have you ever seen these whiteish bumps on your baby’s precious lips after a feed? These are lip blisters and they are one of the many signs that can indicate tethered oral tissues. When a baby needs to remain latched but has a tongue restriction, the lips have to act as the primary seal to get the milk they need. The lips are basically holding on for dear life and that’s why the blisters form. It can be a sign of the tongue not functioning well. In conjunction with other signs, it can help give clues that something is off.

Other signs can include painful nursing or damaged ni**les, misshaped lipstick ni**les after a feed, frustration at the breast, clicking sounds, sensitive gag reflex, poor weight gain, gassiness,spit-up or reflux type symptoms, recessed chin, high palate, recurring clogged ducts. ⁣

If any of these symptoms sound familiar, please find a provider who is trained in tongue ties. NOT all pediatricians or dentists or lactation consultants are knowledgeable to recognize or diagnose them.⁣
